PUBLIC notice has been given that Kerry County Council plans to carry out development on the Tralee – Fenit Greenway Project.
The notice appeared in a local paper today and details the nature and extent of the proposed works. The townlands mentioned are Ballynahoulort, Bawnboy, Clogherbrien, Knockanish East, Knockanish West, Ballygarran, Ballymakegogue, Kilfenora, Tawlaght and Fenit Without.
It is proposed to construct a greenway on a 10.5km stretch of disused railway line between Tralee and Fenit which will be used by pedestrians and cyclists and is sure to become a great tourist attraction and amenity for locals.

The main works mentioned in the public notice include;
• the clearance of vegetation on the rail line corridor, retaining existing boundary hedgerows and boundary vegetation where possible
• the lifting of the old railway rails
• the laying of a three metre bituminious tarmacadam, surface on a crushed stone base
• repair and upgrade of the existing drainage network
• reinstatement of a number of agricultural underpasses
• removal of a number of existing masonry stone abutments
• provision of access controls (pedestrian/cycling friendly gates) road markings, traffic calming measures on the greenway
• provision of agricultural, combined and residential crossings
• installation of safety barriers where required
• boundary treatment works including the installation of stock proof fencing, security fencing, privacy screening, planting and boundary walls.
