PEIL FAOI 7/8/9: Our Under 7/8/9 outdoor academy was a great success last Sunday ar fhéar glas Chathair Sailí! The 3rd outdoor session of ‘24 will take place Caherslee at 11am on Sunday next (28st April). Come along, boys, and enjoy another great Sunday morning football session. Fáilte roimh chách!
PEIL FAOI 10: Next SATURDAY will be a big day for our Under 10 group because we’ll be giving a big Rock welcome to the footballers of Monaleen (Limerick). Graham O’Connell, one of our former stars, will be bringing his new club’s Under 10 boys to Connolly Park; this will be a very special occasion. The games will commence at 11am. (Tim McMahon)
PEIL FAOI 11: (i) Brilliant U11 GoGames football was played last week in Killorglin v Laune Rangers. We had a lovely trip to Puck and were part of an exciting game of the proverbial two halves. We played against a strong breeze in the first half and held our own! We played outstandingly with energetic marathon-like running, highly efficient tackling and Joe-Dylan-Armin-like support play in true Rock fashion!
However, we conceded an unfortunate goal just before half-time which meant that we had an even a bigger challenge sa dara leath. An scór ag leatham….Raonaithe na Leamhna: 1-6; AdeS: 0-1. Ooops!
We started the 2nd period very strongly, we greatly dominated play and, with great determination and courage, we kept Rangers pinned back. Our super-human efforts got us back on level terms with the Launesiders but, try as we might, we couldn’t get our noses in front.
Then, in one of their rare attacks, the Cill Orglan warriors scored a decisive goal. Our boys never gave up, however, as is the custom with Black‘n’Amber teams, and we got back on level terms once again but….faraor, ochón agus mo bhrón….the opposition kicked the winning point with three minutes remaining ar uaireadóir an réiteora. Briseadh croí! Cad eile?
It has to be stated clearly, though, that our boys are undoubtedly improving all the time….session by session and game by game; they never give up and they fight to the end.
Final score…AdeS: 1-9; Laune Rangers: 2-7. Scorers: Danny (1-4), Harry (0-3) and Ben (0-2). Well done, lads….we learn from our experience and we look forward to the next encounter. Well done, all! Another exciting GoGames outing has been scheduled for this Thursday at 6.30pm.
Expect text, boys! (Tim McMahon/Colm Ó Mongáin) (ii) And Football-For-Funwill continue at 10.50am on Sunday next (28ú Aibreán) in Caherslee. Last Sunday’s session was very much enjoyed by all. And the swallows seem to have brought fine weather from their winter homes in South Africa! (Colm Ó Mongáin)
PEIL FAOI 13: Yes, a great start to our U13 season was made by our Rock boys against Na Mistéalaigh. We’re delighted to have got two good victories in the County League. Tá an tús maith déanta; anois leanaimis leis an dea-obair! We are looking forward to our next game….expect text. Training will take place on Tuesday night at the MTU. (Micko Horan)
IOMÁNAÍOCHT FAOI 15: ‘Well done’ to two U15 Rock boys, Ben Litchfield and Haulie Cotter, who hurled v Ballyheigue in the U15 Féile final. Ambaiste, ach tá iománaithe ar an gCarraig i gcónaí!
PEIL FAOI 15: The past week has been a successful one for this group of players…three league games and three victories!
(i) On the 15th our U15B boys continued their winning ways with a hard-fought but well-deserved victory over Kilcummin in Connolly Park. A very even opening meant that there was very little between the teams. Kilcummin had the better of the 2nd quarter and edged ahead.
However, a Rock goal just before the interval levelled matters before half-time….1-2 to 0-5. A strong third quarter, in which we scored 1-3 without reply, proved to be the winning of the game for the home team.
Zealous defending kept the visitors scoreless until the closing stages of the half when a late goal and point made the Rock boys sweat a little before victory was assured! Scór deiridh…AdeS B: 2-5; Cill Chuimín B: 1-6.
Thanks to the Kilcummin boys and mentors for a keen sporting contest. Mórbhuíochas do mheantóir foirne, Eoghan Ó Gealbháin, a ghlac le feadóg an réiteora in am an ghátair agus a cothrom na Féinne don dá fhoireann.
‘Well done’ to our match captain, Joe, and to all the boys. Special mention of Jaden Kareem on his debut for the Austin Stack Club: welcome on board, Jaden. The Rock Player-of-the-Match was Eliot Calleja who made a pivotal match-winning contribution with two great goals.
Foireann Faoi 15B: Conor Murphy; Conor Hanafin, David Ahern (0-1), Dean Courtney; Diarmuid Hennessy, Ediart Topali, Eliot Calleja (2-0); Ewan Canty, Jayden O’Dowd; Jaden Kareem, Joe Barry (0-2), John Riordan; Kyle Yoxhall, Liam Swords (0-1), Mark Foley; Mark Riordan (0-1), Nathan O’Connor, Oisín Cotter, Seán McCannon, Tadhg Somers, Tom Dawson. (Dan Ahern)
(ii) On the 17th our Division 1A team played away (ar an gCillín) to local rivals, Na Gaeil. Powerful performances by every player, right from the throw in, ensured that we took control of the game early on. The intensity didn’t drop throughout the 60 minutes and that was a massive improvement on the previous Sunday’s loss to Laune Rangers. The boys were really switched on for this one! Scór deiridh….Na Gaeil: 1-5; AdeS A: 5-10.
The players: Conor O’Regan; Mark O’Riordan, Darragh Lyons, Oran O’Donoghue; David Hobbert, Eoin Mangan, Ryan O’Carroll; Harry Murphy, Ben Litchfield (captaen); Jamie Casey, Michael Cotter, Barry Laide; Danny Lane, Jack Delaney, Jayden O’Dowd; David Ahern, Ryan O’Flaherty, Noah Reidy, Denis Brassil.
(ii) Our U15B boys maintained their 100% record with another fine performance and a great win in aghaidh na Gaeltachta in the stunning setting of Gallaras on the shore of Cuan Ard na Caithne (Smerwick) on the 18th April.
On winning the toss, the Stack Club boys played with the wind in the first half and had the better of the exchanges, though some wayward shooting and careless passing meant that the home team was still very much in the game.
A couple of goals before half-time gave The Rock boys a healthy seven point lead as they turned to face the elements in the second half. Scór leathama….AdeS: 3-7; An Ghaeltacht: 1-6.
A couple of astute positional switches paid off handsomely for The Rock as, once again, a powerful third quarter put the game beyond the home team’s reach. Credit to our boys!
They never let up and with tenacious tackling and delightful forward play, right to the final whistle, they ran out deserved and emphatic winners. Mórbhuíochas leis an nGaeltacht for a fine game and thanks to the referee for his efficient handling of the encounter.
‘Well done’ to our match captain, Jayden, and to all the boys on another excellent team performance. The Rock Player-of-the-Match: Seán McCannon who was excellent at wing back and immense at centre back! An scór deiridh i nGallaras….AdeS B: 6-13; An Ghaeltacht B: 1-09. These boys have earned a few days R&R after their week’s efforts. Foireann B na Carraige: Conor Murphy; David Ahern, Diarmuid Hennessy, Eliot Calleja (1-0); Ewan Canty (0-1), Fionn Cotter (1-0), Jayden O’Dowd (0-1); Joe Barry (0-3), Joe O’Halloran; Kyle Yoxhall (1-0), Liam Swords (0-2), Nathan O’Connor (2-0); Noah Reidy (1-4), Oisín Cotter, Seán McCannon, Tom Dawson (0-2).
Training continues on Sunday evening. Encouraging signs for these two teams! Hopefully, these boys will keep up the hard work! We’ve had no competitive games this week but, as always, keep watching out for group messages for information. (Ger Hobbert)

A STUDY conducted for Virgin Media has revealed Kerry is the top county from which to work from home.
Over the last four years, the number of people working from home in Ireland has increased from 19.89% to 36.2%. With that in mind, Virgin Media commissioned research to rank the best counties in Ireland for working from home.
The analysis factored in essential elements such as rent prices, broadband speed, crime rates, air quality, sunlight hours, restaurant availability, and the number of primary schools.

Kerry came out on top in the research followed by Clare, Laois, Roscommon and Donegal. With rent prices averaging around €1,035 per month, significantly lower than Dublin’s average of €2,102 per month, Kerry offers an attractive living option according to the research.
Moreover, the county ensures seamless remote work experiences with its fast broadband speed, averaging at 83.35 Mbps.
Furthermore, the research showed Kerry boasts a safe environment, with a low crime rate index of 40.94. For those seeking less crowded locations, The Kingdom’s air quality index of 18 offers an inviting atmosphere for leisurely strolls and relaxation after work.
With a choice of 635 restaurants, pubs, and cafes, Kerry provides ample entertainment and dining choices, alongside a selection of primary schools.
The table below presents a comprehensive ranking of the 26 counties in Ireland:
THE 2023 Tom Crean Dingle Peninsula Challenge took place last August raising funds for the Kerry Cancer Support Group, Down Syndrome Kerry, The Irish Red Cross and other deserving local charities.
The 24-hour challenge saw participants walk, kayak, run, cycle, climb, and swim their way around the picturesque Dingle Peninsula.
Over the past four years, the event has raised approximately €150,000 for various charities such as Down Syndrome Kerry, Comfort for Chemo, the Kerry Hospice, the Cancer Support Group and many more.

The organising team behind this incredible event comprising of Kieran O’ Callaghan, Patrick O’Sullivan, and Daniel Bohan, hosted a ‘thank you’ evening in The Rose Hotel Tralee on Monday for last years participating teams and chosen charities.
Enda O’Brien and Maurice Horan represented Down Syndrome Kerry with Breda Dyland and Trish Kelly there to represent Kerry Cancer Support Group.
Both charities were presented with cheques and made speeches on the impact funds like these have on their organisations.
The organisers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all the supporters that have contributed and supported the event over the last number of years and announced plans for this year’s challenge.
This year, the 2024 challenge will take place on the 30th/31st August with a variation on the previous years route incorporating a start and finish point in Tralee.
With seven teams – The Ugly Mug, Uniquely, Xintec, Rise Coaching Method, The Bookshelf, Cyber Safe Kids and Daniel Bohan Wealth Management already signed up, organisers anticipate this event being the largest one to date.
The event will commence in Blennerville, Tralee by walking the incredible Dingle Way to Inch, from there participants will cycle to Paidi O’ Sé’s Bar in Ventry, jog from Ventry via Criach to Tig Áine’s Cafe, cycle to Glens North Walking Trail, hike Mount Brandon with a pit stop dip in Pater Noster Lake, descend to Faha graveyard, cycle to Derrymore, kayak to Fenit and finish by cycling the Greenway back to Tralee. NED O’Shea Construction is preparing a new application after they were informed their previously approved planning application for 235 new homes in Lisloose, Tralee, has been overturned by An Bord Pleanála.
Building plans were developed in consultation with Kerry County Council for the housing project through the Large Scale Development (LRD) process, which facilitates early engagement between the developer and the planning authority.
Kerry County Council granted permission last November and this planning was appealed to An Bord Pleanála in December 2023 where the project’s fate moved to the appeals process, adjudicated on by An Bord Pleanála.
Continued below…
An Bord Pleanála refused permission this month on the basis of an “Indicative Northern Relief Road” shown on the Kerry County Council Development plan 2022-2028.
A statement issued this week by James O’Shea, Managing Director of Ned O’Shea Construction reads: “Our understanding is An Bord Pleanála overruled their own inspector – who had approved the application, due to lack of sufficient information on the precise route of the new outer Northern Relief Road which will connect MTU North Campus to Caherslee/Mounthawk. However, in reviewing our proposed plans KCC confirmed to our design team that the potential Northern Relief Road had been accounted for.”
However, Ned O’Shea Construction is determined to ultimately deliver the housing project for the town of Tralee.
Mr O’Shea added: “The good news, as we understand it from the Inspector’s Report (and An Bord), is that they were completely satisfied with the impact of all other concerns in relation to noise, ecological impact, cycle link, archaeology, pollution, overlooking, traffic, biodiversity, rights of way, security, access and trespassing on adjacent lands. The inspector even went as far as to say that ‘the proposed density, rather than being excessive, is below the standard range normally appropriate for an urban extension location’.”
Mr O’Shea concluded: “While we’re disappointed in this decision, we are determined to ultimately deliver this badly needed housing for our town. Our team is already busy preparing a new application via the LRD process and in the meantime we are being kept very busy with a number of other community projects throughout the county. Delivering quality community projects has been in our DNA for over 50 years and this setback will not deter our mission to deliver even more projects that benefit the people of Kerry for the next 50 years,” concluded Mr O’Shea.
FUNDING of €2.5 million will be made available for the upgrade of rural laneways and non-public roads in Kerry.
The focus of the Local Improvement Scheme is on upgrading rural laneways and non-public roads which provide access to homes, farms and outdoor amenities.
The allocation of funds is for works to be carried out across 2024 and 2025 on these roads, which are not normally maintained by the local authorities.
Continued below…
Welcoming the announcement, Minister Norma Foley said; “This allocation will allow for the sustained improvement, upgrading and enhancing of roads in rural communities and will improve vital access to rural homes and farms throughout the county.”
Minister Heather Humphreys, the Minister for Rural and Community Development, has changed the rules for funding under the Local Improvement Scheme so that one farmer with a herd number can benefit from it.
Up to now, two herd numbers were required to be using a lane or non-public roadway. This will ensure that more families can now qualify for the scheme.
The Kerry badminton season came to a close this past weekend when the Munster Interleague finals took place in the MTU arena in Cork. On the day, Kerry had teams competing in all 5 grades from H to D.
Killarney had 3 teams competing on the day in grades H, G and F and after playing some brilliant badminton through out the day all 3 teams came home with silver after each winning their quarter and semi-final matches.
In the grade D competition, Listowel first took on Carrigaline of Cork in their semi final. After taking the win their, they went on to face Ladylane from Co.Waterford in the final. After some very close games with a great level of badminton on show, Listowel came out on top and brough the cup back to the Kingdom.
They will now go forward to represent Kerry and Munster in the All-Ireland Interleague finals which are due to take place in Galway in mid-May.
In the grade E competition, it was a round robin format as there was only 3 teams in each respective competition. Castleisland fell short to Nenagh on on scoreline of 4games to 3 and then play went on to play against a strong Centenary team from Cork.
This game again went all the way to the end and unfortunately Centenary took the win on a scoreline of 4 games to 3. This meant that Centenary the gold and both Nenagh and Castleisland finished on 6 games a piece. But as Nenagh won the head to head they took home the silver.
In the grade F, Killarney beat Mallow in their semifinal in a game that was very close going all the way to 3rd mixed and the 3rd set of that game. They then went on to face a very strong Nenagh team in the final and unfortunately came out on the wrong end.
In the grade G, Killarney beat Thurles to win their semifinal and then went on to play Effin from Limerick. Unfortunately after some very close 3 set games they also fell at the last fence in the final.
In the grade H, Killarney first faced off against Roscrea in the quarter final winning that at 5 games to 2. They then faced Tramore in their semi final and again were victorious in their race to the final. They then came up against Garryduff in the final. In this case Garryduff played very well and on the day outplayed Killarney in the final.
After a great season of badminton for all involved, a word of thanks must be passed to those involved in the running and organizing of competitions from the start to the end of the year.
