THERE are plans for further upgrades to Barrack Lane in time for Christmas.

At the meeting of Tralee Municipal District councillors on Monday, Cllr Norma Foley expressed disappointment at the current state of the laneway and said she hoped something would be done to improve its appearance, considering the money that was made available.

Responding, Tralee Municipal District Officer Jean Foley said that further upgrades would take place including lighting and Christmas wreathes.

She said the Council will continue to work with businesses, the Tidy Towns and the wider community in upgrading the town centre and laneways.

Meanwhile, Cllr Toireasa Ferris suggested that, following the collaboration with KCFE on the murals in Milk Market Lane, the Council should engage with students there, at the ITT or at Kerry ETB, about identifying a laneway that they can work on, in terms of murals or artwork, that would change on a regular basis and would create an attraction in itself.

She said it would create an outlet for their creativity and could be part of a project in the course they are pursuing. Cllr Ferris said that there should also be the possibility for further work in Milk Market Lane.
