COURTHOUSE Lane received a makeover earlier this month from 16 volunteers who cleaned, weeded, painted and planted their way from the Courthouse to Castle Street.

The clean up which was part of the Kerry Group HR Operations Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event was supported by the Tralee Chamber Alliance Environmental Task Force, GLAN Tralee, Team Bramble and Kerry County Council.

The clean-up was undertaken in advance of the Rose of Tralee festival and the visit of the Purple Flag adjudication panel, and was ‘a huge success’ according to one of the organisers Gillian Wharton Slattery who said: “We look forward to working with other organisations in the future to plan other similar events. We have witnessed a huge increase in the interest in CSR events in Tralee.  In addition to the obvious benefits to the appearance of the locality, they provide real team building opportunities and a sense of giving back to the community.”

Catriona Galvin of Kerry Group explained why the company got involved.

“A few weeks back we decided as a department here in HR Operations in Tralee, that we would like to offer up a voluntary day to give something back to the town who provide us with our jobs.”

“As our Headquarters is here on Prince’s Street, the town of Tralee, the upkeep and the maintenance of the town is very important to us. With the Rose of Tralee festival approaching, we contacted Tralee Chamber Alliance who were so helpful in putting us in touch with Glan Tralee/Team Bramble – a voluntary organisation who do magnificent work around Tralee town – and they were delighted that we were offering our services.”

“Our project was “Courthouse Lane” which needed some TLC to bring it back to life! So we provided paint, brushes, weeding equipment etc and met with the Glan Tralee/Team Bramble ladies on Friday, August 9 where we did a full clean up of the laneway, including sweeping, weeding, painting of bollards, flower pots, washing of shop fronts, to name but a few tasks! The elements were against us on the day but we powered on and after a few hours, we had the laneway looking tidy and fresh. We were delighted to be given the opportunity to represent Kerry Group and volunteer our services to the town and we look forward to getting involved in another project again soon.”
