WITH just days to go, excitement reigns over the general Oakpark area as Na Gaeil prepare for their All-Ireland Junior Club Final on Saturday in Croke Park.

Nowhere is this more evident than in Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn, just a stone’s throw from their pitches in Killeen.

While the school has pupils playing with clubs all over town, the majority would have an allegiance to the green and white and 16 of the current Na Gaeil senior squad are former pupils in the school, among them current Kerry senior stars and Diarmuid O’Connor and Jack Barry.

“The club and school were founded around the same time so I suppose we’ve grown up together,” said Cáit Uí Chonchúir, explaining that strong bond which exists, during a jersey day to support the team on Monday.

“The school works in tandem with Na Gaeil as we use their facilities in Killeen and they use our hall here in the school, so there’s great co-operation between us. Many of the founding members of the school are also connected with the club. There’s a big contingent from the school going up on Sunday so hopefully they’ll bring home the cup,” added Cáit.
