Our senior team were out last Sunday afternoon in round 1 of this years club championship against Dingle in a sun drenched Paddy Kennedy Park , Annascaul.
The tie saw these sides get reacquainted after they recently contested the Division 1 County League Final at the same venue , with the men from the west running out easy winners on that occasion.
It was Dingle who started brighter kicking three quick points in a row.
Jack Savage open our account with a close in free. Dingle then kicked another score ,also from a free.
Shortly after we got our first score from play from the boot of Gavin O Brien who converted for thirty yards out on the right.
Dingle then kicked a point to leave the score 5-3 at the water break.
At the restart Cormac Coffey made a great run out of our defence and with the outside of the right drilled the ball right over the black spot to leave the minimum between the sides.
We were now starting to take a firm grip around the middle,with Tommy Walsh and Gavin O Brien winning a lot of possession,we also picked up a lot of breaking ball.
This pressure was rewarded when Conor Hayes kicked a score after a good move involving Barry John Keane who gave a neat ball into Jack Savage, who quickly offloaded to the on running Gavin O Brien, he cut through the Dingle rear guard, and fed Hayes who tapped over from close range.
Despite our good period of possession,Dingle remained very dangerous on the break,and were converting their chances much easier and they led at the break 11-7.
Dingle were to extend their lead at the start of the second half with an early point.
We replied with a point from a Barry John Keane mark.
Shane Foley then pulled off a great save to deny Dingle a certain goal after Paul Geaney fielded inside the square and had a goal at his mercy.
The frees of Jack Savage kept us in touch and at the second half water break we trailed by four points(14-10).
At this stage Tommy Walsh had moved to the edge of the square,and our next score came directly from a long ball in, which Tommy gathered and converted from 14 meters out.
Sides traded points for the next ten minutes ,but O’Rahillys could never close the gap to less than three as time was running out.
With minutes to go Shane Foley pulled off a second wonder save to give the blues a glimmer of hope.
Unfortunately as we tried chasing the game, Dingle turned us over and added two late scores .
When the referee blew the final whistle Dingle were the victors on a score line of 18-12, but in reality the difference between the two teams was much less than that score line would suggest.
We can take encouragement from the performance, as we were far more competitive than our last outing , and the team showed a marked improvement in tackling and effort. It was also good to see the return of Con Barrett,Sean Walsh and Shane Brosnan from injury .

U12 GIRLS
First of all a warm welcome to Olivia Crean. We hope that you’ll have many a laugh, great fun and make friends for life playing football with us Olivia.
We are very fortunate to have a fine bunch of girls playing with us. We have great numbers at U12s between 9, 10, 11 and 12 year olds playing with us. We have 2 teams, a team which we call Kerins O’ Rahilly and our second team is called Strand Road Blues.
KERINS O’ RAHILLY TEAM
Our Kerins O’ Rahilly team were at home in the Co. league last Tuesday to Churchill.
Churchill started the game with some good attacking play which resulted in scores.
Our girls found it hard to get some moves together as Churchill being the stronger more skillful side didn’t let up on keeping the scoreboard ticking over.
The second half resumed with our girls getting some great moves together which resulted in a few good scores. Our scorers on the night were Córa Meehan 1-01, Megan Gaynor 0-01, Aoife O’ Connell 0-02, U10 Lexi Keane 0-02.
Churchill ran out the well deserved winners in the end. Best of luck to Churchill in their final.

STRAND ROAD BLUES TEAM
We headed across town to John Mitchels last Wednesday in the final game in the group. Our captain was U10 Sennait Forster.
John Mitchels started the game well putting pressure on our young ladies and putting a couple of scores on the board which continued to the final whistle. Even though we turned up the intensity, time ran out for us.
We just couldn’t seem to get going on the night. Great work put in by Allie Kerins, Grace Kirby, Ava O’ Shea, Molly Casey and U10 Lexi Keane on the night. Best wishes to John Mitchels team in their final.
Co. League Final
Best of luck to our girls and their coaches in their final v Finuge / St. Senans this Wednesday, September 8th . Throw in will be at 7p.m. in Ballyrickard.
U14 GIRLS
We had a BYE in round 1 of the North Kerry League in which we are playing in Division 3.
In our group are Dingle / Annascaul, Moyvane, Beale and Duagh.
In round 2 we are away to Moyvane. Fixture to be confirmed. Best of luck to our girls and their coaches.
U16 GIRLS
Kerins O’ Rahilly’s U16s after their friendly game v Na Gaeil’s.
We were delighted to welcome Na Gaeil to Ballyrickard last Tuesday for a friendly game . Many thanks to Na Gaeil’s girls and coaches Eddie Sheehy and Mike O’ Brien and of course to our own team and coaches. Thanks also to Frank McLoughlin for refereeing on the night.
Round 1 of our North Kerry League has been postponed because Austin Stacks have a game the same night. We will send on details during the week.

MINOR LADIES
Last Thursday evening in Fossa both sets of supporters were treated to a cracking game of football between two very evenly matched teams. Both teams went out to play football in the hope of taking the win in the minor semifinal. Last quarter and both teams were going at it full belt.
The game ended in a draw. Thanks to Fossa for a great game.

Championship 2021 is nearly upon us.
Our U13s are away to Ballymac next week.
Our U15s are away to Glenflesk on Saturday, September 18th.
Our U17s are away to Laune Rangers on September 22nd.
CHAMPIONSHIP
Championship Season is upon us and there is a good feeling in our brilliant club! Us Ladies will begin our Championship soon.
We would love for see plenty of support for us.
Children watching their friends, neighbours or heroes in action is a good thing and we hope to see you all at these games.
Bring a bag of sweets and remember what would you have given to get out to a game during lockdown!!
Juvenile Notes
A massive thank you to our girls, boys, coaches, volunteers, parents and families in our club with the way you have embraced the changes in training times etc. with enthusiasm this year. We know that some families spend a few hours in Ballyrickard on Sunday mornings because of the different training times. We can 100% say that this is the best year ever for our academy and we can honestly say that lockdown has taught so many of us to slow down and to enjoy what we have, embrace the moment! Enjoy the time with your children, it’s the simple little things like kicking ball and having you watch them that means so much. Covid has probably also taught us to think about the highly materialistic society we live in, the best things in life are free! Enjoy your football, making and meeting friends is what it’s all about!
We continue to welcome new players. Welcome to Alice Farr, Eden Walsh, Kayla O’ Sullivan and Nathan O’ Sullivan who joined our family orientated academy this week. Now that you’re back to school bring a friend or if you’re a newcomer contact Adrian (085) 1863655 and he will let you know about training times etc.
U5 BOYS
The boys were under the watchful eyes of Barry John Keane, Bryan Daly, Ger Moran and Máistir Déaglán last Sunday. Coaches, Declan and Barry John played Kerry football and are just brilliant with these youngsters as are Ger and Bryan. The boys thoroughly enjoyed their training session as was obvious from the smiles during training. Ger Moran has given years of dedication to the juvenile club in Strand Road and it’s always great to see you there Ger.
A big shout out to Nathan O’ Sullivan who joined us last week. You’re in with a great bunch of lads and great coaches , enjoy!
Best wishes to Leo Keane who is in a cast but still insists on attending training, looking forward to seeing you back in action again.
Our “Players of the Week “ last Sunday were Adam Scott and Cian Carroll well done boys, two young stars of the future.
U6 GIRLS
Firstly, we must welcome Kayla O’ Sullivan, Eden Walsh and Alice Farr who joined our bubbly team of girls last Sunday. You’ll have great fun with this bunch of young ladies . As always , great fun and enjoyment had by everyone. Thanks Roy who has a great understanding of youngsters and knows that it’s all about the girls enjoying themselves and making friends. Sunday mornings have brought out the best in all these young ladies.
Making a great impression on her first day was Alice Farr who was named “Player of the Week.” Well done Alice!
U7 BOYS
As always, with our great numbers the boys are divided into 3 groups to make sure that everyone gets great attention from our fantastic coaches John O’ Connor, Barry O’ Shea, Ger O’ Brien, Ray Walsh, David O’ Connor, Pádraig Kelly and Ben O’ Brien. Between them all they have played club and county football. We could all learn a lot from this week’s drills. How many of us know the correct way to dispossess your marker of the ball in the correct manner without fouling!! Now that’s something that the coaches were working on this week with the boys.
Last Sunday’s “Player of the Week” was Luke Kelly who again is one to watch in the future and whose family also has a great footballing background in Strand Road. Congrats Luke.
U8 Girls
This week our fantastic U8 Girls welcomed Austin Stacks to our Ballyrickard Pitches. All the girls showed great team work and working the ball up and down the pitch together. Thank you to the Austin Stacks teams and coaches, we look forward to playing you again. Huge well done to our “Players of the week” Mia Leane and Addison Quirke both girls have shown huge improvement in all areas well done girls. We are fortunate enough to have great numbers at this age group and our coaches did a fantastic job with both teams who played on Sunday and always do their best to ensure every girl gets on to play rotating subs. Huge thank you to our dedicated coaches Maurice Horan, Nora Corridon, Edel O’Sullivan, Denise McGrath and Bernard Lynch, thank you all for your time each and every week.
U9 BOYS

U10 Girls
This week the girls welcomed Austin Stacks For a friendly game. All the girls put in their best effort and showed great teamwork throughout. Thank you to Austin stacks and their coaches and we look forward to our next friendly game with Ye. This week we had two “Players of the week” Sennait Forester and Hannah O’Sullivan huge well done to both girls who are turning into great footballers. Also a big thank you to our coaches. Each Sunday our fantastic coaches Alan O’Sullivan, Richard Donnelly, Nora Corridon and Kelly Fitzgerald go through many drills and skills with the girls, thank you all for your time every week with out fail.
U11 BOYS
We are boasting now but how many clubs can we say have excellent coaches like ours… Paul Ryan, a Cork native played inter county with Cork as well as the European Cup with Cork City in soccer but now fully converted to GAA!!Paul has a great understanding of youngsters and has excellent listening skills as well as being an excellent coach. We could watch Mike Quirke all day training these lads, his work and enthusiasm are second to none , a number of all Ireland medals to his name and has coached at the highest level … John O’ Sullivan, again class or what ..John played as a back row forward for Munster, Connacht and Agen.
Keith Brosnan played senior football and has that perfect personality for training young lads.
So many central pillars of sport involved in volunteering with our wonderful club.
U15 BOYS
We went into our second central region game after a 3-week layoff which was not ideal against a very good Ballmac team. Ballymac started very well and rattled off 3 points without reply in the opening 5 minutes. However a Jamie McCarthy’s goal brought us level and ignited us a little bit. The remainder of the opening quarter was much more even although Ballymac would tap on another 2 points to our single score from Thomàs Kennedy leaving Ballymac with a 1-point lead of 0-5 to 1-1 at the first water break.
The second quarter was a well fought contest early on with both sides trading scores. Odhran Kerins with 2 points and Jamie McCarthy adding to his tally while Ballymac tacked on 3 points of their own in the same period. But late in the half Ballymac would start to pull clear. While we missed 2 good goal scoring opportunities Ballymac took theirs and added 4 points before half time. The scores at this stage were 1-4 Kerins O’Rahillys to 1-12 Ballymac. We were fortunate to still be in the game thanks to 2 outstanding saves from Rory Kennedy in goals.
The second half was one to forget for us. While we worked extremely hard we were tiring now and with only 1 sub due to injuries we were unable to keep pace with Ballymac. Tomàs would drive forward to add 3 more points and Jamie scored from a tight angel to keep us ticking over but Ballymac scored 2 more goals and a bundle of points and really powered through at the finish.
In the end Ballmac ran out well deserved winners. The boys gave great effort and we had stand out performances from Rory Kennedy, Conor Cronin, Ryan Houlihan, Tomàs Kennedy and Jamie McCarthy. Our next outing in the Central Region is Monday evening vs Castlegregory at 6:30 in Strand Road.

Unfortunately Féile in Kerry has been cancelled for 2021 due to Covid restrictions. It is what it is and for the safety of each other it was a must. Hopefully something might be organised for this year’s U15s in 2022 who missed out on Féile…
For 50 years Féile has been an exciting time for the underage at U14, now moved to U15, for club players all over the country. To represent your club at Féile is a privilege and memories will be made to last a lifetime.
LEAVING CERTS
Best wishes to all of our players who received their Leaving Certificate results last Friday. You have endured two of the toughest years of school in the midst of a global pandemic and that is an achievement in itself. Whatever the outcome, there is always a way to get to where you want to be.
Always remember you can do anything you set your mind too.

NEW AND PRELOVED GEAR
Apologies but we had to postpone our sale last weekend. Some gear will be available next Sunday during Juvenile Academy in Ballyrickard from 10a.m. – 1p.m.
FUNDRAISER
We are looking at kitting out some of our teams for games so we are going to do a fundraiser within the next few weeks. Rome wasn’t built in a day so it’s a gradual process trying to do something ever so often to make improvements all round. We are delighted to say each child at training has ta ball each. We ask everyone to support us in some way.
