Fall In New Car Sales In Kerry Last Month Compared To February 2021

THERE was a decrease in new car sales in Kerry last month compared to February 2021, according to the latest statistics from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).

There were 292 new car registrations in the county in February 2021 compared to 358 in the same month in 2021, a fall of over 18%.

Nationally, there were 12,031 new car sales last month, while in February 2021 there were 13,698, a decrease of over 12%.

Hyundai was the most popular make of car in Kerry in February with 57 units sold, with the rest of the Top 5 made up of Kia (38), Toyota (30), Skoda (29) and Peugeot (25).

The Hyundai Tucson was the most popular model with 33 units sold, with the Kia Sportage (17), Toyota Corolla (12), Peugeot 5008 (11) and Peugeot 3008 (10) making up the top five.

Diesel cars are still the most popular engine type with 119 units (down 20% on Feb 2021) with 72 petrol sold (down 32%).

Next is 45 petrol/electric hybrid vehicles sold, a drop of over 28% on February 2021, 33 Electric vehicles (+200%); 20 petrol/plug-in electric hybrid (+100%);  two diesel electric hybrid (-88%) and one petrol/gas.
