Conor Cusack took part in the Keith Whyte Waterfront Ultra Marathon as part of Team Hoyt in Clonakilty at the weekend.
TRALEE man, Conor Cusack was left humbled this weekend as he took part in the Keith Whyte Waterfront Ultra Marathon as part of the famous ‘Team Hoyt’.
Team Hoyt consists of the American father and son duo of Dick and Rick Hoyt, who are known around the world for their sporting prowess and determination in the face of adversity, with Rick having being diagnosed as a spastic quadriplegic with cerebral palsy at birth.
As a result, Rick is wheelchair bound, but this has not stopped the team from taking part in over 1,000 races, including marathons and triathlons since their first run back in 1997, with Dick pushing and pulling his son’s wheelchair throughout all the events.
Conor, who is a familiar, determined and ever positive face on the running scene here in town, took part in the challenge of helping to push Rick in Clonakilty over the weekend and judging by his post on social media afterwards, he was left humbled and delighted by the opportunity.
“To see the love of Team Kerr and Team Hoyt as they run and roll together as a family is incredibly humbling, and to be able to call these people my friends is just amazing,” he said in his post.
“Pushing both Rick and Aaron, I felt like I was floating along, a truly once in a lifetime moment. [I was] pretty emotional crossing the line to say the least,” he continued.
