ARDFERT School celebrated ‘Bike Day’ on Friday and also took the opportunity to launch its ‘Night at the Dogs’ event.
Excited groups of children cycling and scooting began arriving at the school from 8.30am onwards as they took part in National Bike Day.
Garda Aidan O’Mahony and Angela Wall, Green Schools Co-ordinator were on hand to lead a huge group of 100 children, accompanied by parents and teachers from An Fearann in the village to the school gate.

There they were met by members of the Parents’ Association who offered them fruit and drinks for their efforts.
There were loud cheers as local greyhound trainer, Jonathan Best arrived with his greyhound pup to launch the school’s ‘Night at the Dogs’ on June 24.
Declan Dowling, CEO and Heather Hartley, PRO of Tralee Greyhound Track attended the launch as did many members of the organising committee.

Principal, Mrs Betty Stack welcomed everyone and to mark the launch, she announced details of a competition to name the greyhound pup which Jonathan had brought with him.
The local community and businesses beyond, have responded very generously as usual in sponsoring and supporting the ‘Night at the Dogs’. It will be a family night with face painting, bouncy castle and children’s race.
There will be a prize for best dressed lady and best dressed man. There is a fantastic door prize of a night for two in the Dromhall Hotel, Killarney and a mega draw will ensure that everyone’s a winner. John Breen will provide music upstairs for after race entertainment.
