MINORS
BALLYMAC 3—9 CASTLEGEGORY 2—10
The Central Region competition which began in June came to a conclusion last Tuesday evening in the Mitchel’s complex. When these teams have met previously there has been little between them, and so it was again on this occasion.

Fine displays by Tomas O’ Connor, Micheal Reidy, and Dara Keane helped us to a narrow win at the end of a tough physical encounter. Even though we were 8 points up at the break, 9 ahead midway through the 2nd half, our opponents scored 1-4 without reply in the final quarter to set up a very anxious finish. Both sides pointed early on Tomas our scorer.

Ballymac win

Ballymac Minor team are Central Region Division 3 Champions following a 3-9 to 2-10 victory over Castlegregory.

Daire Keane brought off a fine catch in midfield and sent Eoin O’ Malley on his way goal ward. Continuing his run Eoin took a return pass from Max O’ Brien and finished to the net.

Tomas converted a free after Daire Keane was fouled and Liam O’ Malley played Dara Reagan in for another point. Castle again pointed before a strong challenge by Tadhg Brick stopped them in their tracks.

Micheal won possession and passed to Barry Lyons who pointed. Brian Lonergan pointed from a 45 with ease and this was followed when Tomas sent in a high ball which was flicked to the net by Keelan Brosnan.

Our opponents responded by scoring two more points. Barry then won possession and passed to Dara Reagan who was fouled and converted the free himself to leave the half time score 2—06 to 0—04 in our favour

Castlegregory started the second half all fired up and goaled straight from the throw in and this was quickly followed by another point. We responded when ML. Reidy drove forward and put Daire Keane through for a point.

Tadhg moved up field, passed to Barry who goaled from a very tight angle. Tomas again won possession and sent ML. Reidy goal ward adding on another point. Castle again pointed and Keelan was fouled as he drove forward, Dara Reagan pointing from the free. We were now 9 points ahead but Castle had no intention of giving in.

A misplaced pass allowed our opponents in for an easy goal followed by two further points. Fine defending by Eddie Rodgers, David Long and Gary Horan kept Castle at bay for the next 10 minutes while Ballymac also missed a few scoring chances. With time almost up Castle pointed from a free, and did likewise minutes later.

From the kick out referee Paul Hayes blew the final whistle, much to the relief of the vocal Ballymac support. After the game captain Gary Horan accepted the Kelliher’s Garage sponsored trophy and thanked mentors Tony, Martin, Willie, and Aidan for their work during the year.

Interestingly when the same teams met previously in a league final at under 14 level the result was 3—9 to 2—9 in our favour.

TEAM &SCORERS: B Lonergan (0-1), D Long, G Horan (Capt.) E Rodgers, E O’Malley (1-0), ML. Reidy (0-1), T. Brick, T O’ Connor (0-2), M OBrien, J. McDonnell, D. Keane (0-1) L. O’Malley, B. Lyons (1-1), K. Brosnan (1-0), D. Reagan (0-3) SUBS J. O’Keeffe, M. Hoare, C. Lowe, P. O’Donnell, D. Chawke, C. Dunne.

QUIZ
The Halfway Bar on Saturday evening last was the venue for the Ballymac GAA Club fundraising quiz. A huge turn out of 29 teams entered with the team of Brenda White, Geraldine Sheehy, Maureen Guerin and Pa White coming out on top after all the rounds were completed.

Many thanks to all who participated on the night. Thanks also to Padraig McCarthy who hosted the event. The Club are also indebted to all those who donated prizes for the teams and sport prizes on the night.

Kieran Moriarty was as usual an excellent quiz master with a wide range of topics covered on the night. All and all a very successful fundraiser which also doubled up as a great social evening.

FAOI 12 REVIEW
BLUE TEAM
Our U 12 Blue team began the year in Division 1A in both phases of the Co. League. The standard in both phases was particularly high and our boys proved themselves more than capable in the top division.

Victories over Austin Stacks and Glenflesk and defeats to Laune Rangers and Dr. Crokes and a draw against Kilcummin in our final group game saw us again placed in 1A for the second phase of games. Four victories over Glenflesk, Fossa, Ardfert, and Kilcummin set us up for a winner takes all game against Laune Rangers.

On the evening the Killorglin side came out top. In the Castleisland District League victories over Scartaglen and Currow set us up for a final against Knock/Brosna. On the day our boys proved too strong for the combination side and ran out deserving winners.

Our U12’s blue team competed in the central region, playing against Killorglin , Milltown Castlemaine, Ardfert & Austin Stacks. We got off to a good start with a facile win over the Rockies.

The Milltown/Castlemaine game was a thriller finishing in a draw. Killorglin again proved to be a formidable outfit getting the better of our side, but with a little bit of luck on the night it could have been a different result.

In our last game against a physical Ardfert we played brilliant football to beat our opponents with a couple of points to spare. Overall an enjoyable experience with Laune Rangers again being the only team to defeat this outstanding team.

Our combined blue and gold U 12 team travelled to Fitzgerald stadium to take part in the Munster U 12 blitz. In our group were Macroom, Fossa and Duagh. In our first game against Macroom it took us a while to settle having missed some easy chances however when Macroom scored a goal midway through the game our boys responded in style and ran out comfortable winners.

Our game against Fossa was a much tougher battle but our opponents were much more clinical up front and were worthy winners. In Our final game against Duagh we played with great confidence and ran out easy winners. We were treated to a tour of Fitzgerald stadium by Fionn Fitzgerald after our three games. A great day was had by all. Thanks to everyone who travelled.

We received an invitation to the Newmarket Blitz where we again came out on top with a victory over the host Club in the final.

Throughout the year this team played some outstanding football and credit must go to trainers Roland Rogers, Declan O Connell and Eddie O Connell for the work they put in with the boys all year.

FAOI 12 REVIEW – GOLD TEAM
Our U12 Gold team were in Division 1B in both phases of the Co. League and certainly not out of their depth in the top division. There were unlucky to lose to Dr. Crokes in their first game but recovered well to defeat Austin Stacks, Laune Rangers, Glensflesk and Kilcummin to finish second in the table.

In the second phase they recorded victories over Laune Rangers, Kilcummin and Ardfert with defeats to Fossa and Glenflesk . Next up for the boys was Division 1 of the Central Region.

Again they performed excellently winning all their games against Austin Stacks, Laune Rangers, Miltown Castlemaine and giving their best display in the final group game against Ardfert which saw them win out the competition.

The final competition of the year was the Castleisland District League where we secured victories over Scartaglen and Desmonds with defeats to John Mitchels and Cordal. These results saw us qualify for a final against Cordal. This final played in Castleisland was a thrilling encounter and it was the Cordal boys who lifted the trophy.

The boys participated in 2 blitzs during they year the Jerry Foley Memorial blitz in Firies was of a very high standard with some excellent football played by all teams. We also received an invitation from Moyvane to participate in the Hughie Fitzmaurice Memorial tournament where we reached the final only to lose out to the home Club.

The lads showed an improvement with every game and credit for this must go to team mentors John Rice, Martin Lowe and Jack Culloty.
