DUBLIN have received a boost ahead of the All-Ireland SFC semi-final against Kerry.

Jim Gavin has announced that All-Star defender James McCarthy is fit and ready for action in Croke Park on Sunday week.

The Ballymun Kickhams man had sustained an knee injury in the build-up to the Leinster Final which was suspected at the time would end McCarthy’s season.

The Dublin boss was insistent in the lead up to the quarter-final that McCarthy was back fully fit but despite being named in the starting 15, he played no part in the Dubs five-point victory over Donegal.

After coping with the loss of vital defenders, Jack McCaffrey and Rory O’Carroll earlier this year, the Dublin defence could do without losing another cog in its engine.

James McCarthy is a no-nonsense attacking wing back, who has been one of the Dubs most consistent performers over the past five years.

Jim Gavin is also hopeful that Eoghan O’Gara’s red card which he picked up late on against Donegal will be overturned after an appeal.
