Burglaries In Kerry Down By 60% This Year Compared To Same Period In 2015

Burglaries in Kerry saw a sharp decline in the first six months of this year.

BURGLARIES in Kerry declined sharply in the first six months of the year compared to the same period in 2015, according to the latest statistics from Kerry Gardaí.

The figures were revealed at the meeting of the Joint Policing Committee at Kerry County Council on Friday, by Kerry Division Chief Superintendent David Sheahan and shows decreases across the board in relation to property crime.

There were three aggravated burglaries reported from January to June, down one on 2015. However, non-aggravated burglaries were down 60% from 197 last year (Jan-June)  to 81 this year.

Vehicle thefts also decreased by almost 50%. There was 25 vehicle thefts in 2015 (Jan-June) and 13 so far this year. Thefts from vehicles fell by a nearly a third, from 67 in 2015 to 46 so far this year.

When it comes to thefts from shops, there were 253 cases in 2015 (Jan-June) compared to 217 this year, down 14%, while theft from other property saw a fall from 164 in 2015 (Jan-June) to 124 so far this year.
