AUSTIN Stacks talisman, Kieran Donaghy, is calling for more of the same from Rockie fans this Sunday as they attempt to win their first county title in 20 years.

The Kerry star spoke to TraleeToday.ie at the ‘Be A Star Dominos Basketball Camp’ on Thursday (click here for more on the camp).

“The support on Sunday was unreal and we need people to make even more of an effort at the replay. We want even more Stacks people if it’s possible because last week was unbelievable. Anybody who isn’t doing anything on Sunday, grab a lift, get behind us because we’ve a chance to do something special this year. It’d be great for the club and town,” said the All-Star.

I say to him that it’s a good omen that 20 years ago, Stacks won a county final after a replay in Killarney.

“Yeah, it’s a nice thing to think about but it really has no effect on the game. For us it’s about representing our club in the best way possible. Certain members of our panel have had tough times in their personal lives with bereavements in the last three or four months so it’d be great for them if we won it,” he said.

The banner on Sunday remembering the late Rock clubman Trevor Barrett, who died in April, was a nice tribute by the fans.

“I was a lovely touch by them. Trevor was a huge part of our dressing room for the last four or five years, maybe he was looking down on us last week and he’ll be looking down on us this week. His brother plays with us and the Barretts are a great Stacks family. If we were to do it, it would mean a lot to them,” said Kieran.
