BRYAN Carr School of Performing Arts has teamed up with Kerry County Library to promote  books or Library membership as practical gifts for Children this Christmas.

“We wanted to show the fun and adventures that are alive within Dr. Seuss books with Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, and all of your favourite Seussical characters when they spring to life onstage in Seussical the Musical,” said Bryan Carr, director of the production which will be performed in Tralee on Saturday/Sunday, December 20/21.

“Authors such as Dr. Seuss have played a vital role in developing children’s interest in reading with his most celebrated books such as ‘Green Eggs and Ham’, ‘The Cat and the Hat’, ‘Horton hears a Who’ providing a wonderful introduction to books which, if developed at a young age, lasts into adulthood,” said County Librarian, Tommy O’Connor.

Seussical the Musical transports the audience from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus.

The Cat in the Hat, the narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child who gets in trouble for thinking too many “thinks.”

Horton’s challenge is twofold – not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Seussical the Musical will run at Siamsa Tire Theatre on Saturday December 20 at 7.30pm and on Sunday 21st at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

Tickets available from www.siamsatire.com or 066 7123055 and information regarding Kerry County Library books and membership can be got from www.kerrylibrary.ie or by calling 066 7121200.
