Here’s What’s On For Culture Night In Tralee

CULTURE Night – the annual all-island public event that celebrates culture, creativity, and the arts – takes place tonight and there’s loads to see and do for free in the Tralee area.

There’s loads happening at Kerry County Museum. The living history group ‘The Last Prince’ will populate the Medieval Experience for the enjoyment of all.

There’s a premiere show of Skills for Life’s new music video “Brave” at 6pm. Also at 6pm you can learn a Ukrainian dance with the Museum Culture Club. From 7pm-7.45pm: they welcome the Kerry Ukraine Choir for a special performance.

‘Into Light’, taking place at the Island of Geese, will demonstrate the strong arts and creative talents of MTU students and alumni. The performance will commence at 8pm for approximately 50 minutes and will include film, traditional music, spoken word, animation, poetry and solo classical and contemporary musical performances.

Over at Mercy Mounthawk from 7.30pm to 9.30pm there’s an explosion of multi-cultural dance and musi with Catherine Young Dance putting on Céilí Afro Dabke Ukraine.

The evening will kick off with a performance. The floor will then open up for everyone to join in and dance. Learn Ukrainian folk dance, African dance and traditional Irish céilí dances.

Taking place between 7pm and 8pm, there’s a guided walk through the history of Collis Sandes House with musical accompaniment from students of Sempre Music Academy. Including a talk through the costumes of the era that will be on display that evening.

In Siamsa Tíre’s theatre you can join members of the National Folk Theatre to learn Irish Munnix Dance unique to Siamsa and Irish song from the National Folk Theatre repertoire in a series of workshops running from 6 – 8pm.

This is followed by Imeall//llaemI at 9pm This is an experimental and informal performance concept between sound artists and contemporary circus artists, creating an environment for collaborative artistic experimentation in the gallery of Siamsa Tíre.

Participate in a late-night Culture Café tour of participating Café’s — North South Coffee Shop & Bistro & Yummy Café —with presentations from TEDx Salon, Art in the Park, Music Generation, Classical Delights, West Coast Jazz, Trad in Tralee and lots more entertainment; offering a mix of both indoor and canopied outdoor events. It takes place from 9-11pm.

Meanwhile, one event you can’t attend unless you already have a ticket is at Maddens on Milk Market lane where they host The OtherSide — a traditional style late-night talk show set in a relaxed setting. The event is  sold out prior to tonight.

It features guests such as Irish Olympian Monika Dukarska, choreographer Michael Keegan Dolan and journalist & filmmaker Seán Mac an tSíthigh with music from Ríona Boland.
