January Was A Good Month For New Car Sales In Kerry

THERE was a slight rise in new car sales in Kerry last month compared to January 2021, according to the latest statistics from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI),.

There were 560 new car registrations in the county in January  2021 compared to 549 in the same month in 2021, a rise of 2%.

Nationally, there were 25,092 new car sales last month, while in 2021 there were 25,140, a decrease of 0.19%.

Hyundai was the most popular make of car in Kerry in January with 104 units sold, with the rest of the Top 5 made up of Toyota (96), Ford (51), Kia (46) and Skoda (45) .

The Hyundai Tucson was the most popular model with 60 units sold, with the Toyota RAV4 (24), Toyota Corolla (23), Hyundai Kona (21) and Ford Puma (20) making up the top five.

Diesel cars are still the most popular engine type with 168 units (down 28% on Jan 2021) with 165 petrol sold (up 3%).

Next is 118 petrol/electric hybrid vehicles sold, a rise of over 21% on January 2021, 49 Electric vehicles (+145%); 38 petrol/plug-in electric hybrid (+111%);  14 diesel electric hybrid (-22%) and eight petrol/gas.
