SENIOR LADIES

Our Senior ladies had a busy week with a very good challenge game against Ballymac last Thursday night under lights in Mitchel’s.

Played in windy conditions but dry conditions we started well and enjoyed good possession and scores

it was an even game with our girls coming out on top by a few points. Thanks to Ballymac for the challenge.

Our senior ladies also travelled back to the Comhortas Paudi O’Sé tournament last Saturday

We travelled with a very youthful team and played a very strong Tirconnell Gaels in the first game at a wind-swept Gallarus making playing conditions extremely

challenging. Tirconnell played with the gale force wind in the first half and despite heroic defending by our backs we went in at half time

down by 12 points. In the second half we piled on the pressure to reduce the lead to 4 points but with our all-out attack Tirconnell turned

over a ball and hit us with a killer goal to finish the game with a loss.

We now had to play St Manmanns from Laois in the shield semi-final. the game was delayed by nearly an hour and the weather conditions had deteriorated to gale force wind and rain making this game a lottery.

Mitchel’s lost the toss and played into the wind with fantastic effort scoring 2 points but St Manmans with the gale hit us for 2-2 leaving us trail at half time.

With the wind in the second half we put in a mighty effort to bring the game back to a 2point deficit but try as we did, we hit the crossbar, post but couldn’t force the winner eventually losing by 2 points.

We want to congratulate the players who gave unreal commitment in terrible conditions.

This was a great learning experience for our youth full team well done to all. Panel Jane Carmody, Tanya O’Connor, Lisa Costello, Emma Carmody, Ashleigh Murphy, Patriz Brosnan, Niamh Myers, Sime OGungsbesan, Sarah KIlgallen, Ava Buckley, Caitlin O Sullivan, Ruth Moriarty, Niamh Flatley, Arianne Finnegan, Jade Powell, Tara Fitzgerald.

UNDER 6 & 8 GIRLS

Once again there was an excellent turnout for the u-6 and u-8 girls training in the sports hall in John Mitchels on Sunday morning.

Coaches Caroline and Padraig had given the girls some skills to practice at home during the week and it was evident that they had worked hard, as the group as a whole showed excellent improvement.

Nadine and Ciara, Millie and Courtney led by example, while in the warm-up Layla and Sophia, new girl Gia, Sophie, Amberleigh, and Alesha were to the fore.

Some excellent drills saw the girls bring out their soloing, passing and catching skills. In the practice game at the end, where the girls were using their hand-passing skills and soloing, Ella showed an assassin’s touch in front of goal, bagging a hat-trick. Not to be outdone, Ciara came out of goal to bring her side back into matters, while Madison shone throughout.

Training will continue next Sunday in the John Mitchels sports-hall from 10.00 – 11.00am with the emphasis on fun, making friends and learning some new skills. All are welcome!

UNDER 8’s

John Mitchel’s was very busy again on Sunday Last with over 50 U8 Boys and girls ready for training. Great to see all kids of this age group learning the skills of football whilst making friends & having fun as well. Training for U8 Boys and girls continues every Sunday morning from 10.00am to 11.00am in the safety of sport’s hall at John Mitchel’s Ballyseedy.

EVERYONE WELCOME!!

UNDER 10 Boys

It was a great session on the all-weather pitch in Sunday with Jack, Darragh, Luke and David putting in a great effort and full commitment, well done lads. Eamon, Sean, Calvin, Cody and Daniel showed that their skills are improving all the time and really showed this in the game at the end.

Well done to all the lads who trained it was excellent. The game at the end was really fast and hard with great skills, passes and scores being taken. What was really good to see was that the lads were tackling hard and forcing a lot of turnovers. Well done to all and see you next Sunday
