UNDER 7 BOYS & GIRLS
A magnificent Sunday of football games and training was had by all in our ballyseedy complex.
Sincere thanks to St Pat’s for visiting for go games and it was a joy to watch all the games played with joy, enthusiasm and no little skill.Outside of this we continued training on the Astro turf where catch the coach was the stand out game along with stuck in the mud. Special mention for Siun, Mia, Nancy, Orlaith, Amy and Aoibheann who played with our under 8s girls today against stacks.  Well, done to all.
Training continues next Sunday at 11 and as always, we welcome new members.
Do not forget to fill out the return to play form before each session.

U8/U10 GIRLS

U 8 girls who faced Austin stack Sunday morning in Connolly park

Last Sunday morning saw the John Mitchel’s u8 and u10 girls on the road, as we made the short trip to Connolly Park to play our close neighbours and rivals Austin Stacks. Both teams gave fantastic performances and it is really heartening for the coaches to see the girls use the skills they practised in training, on the field of play. As ever, these competitive games against other teams really bring on the players, building up teamwork as they see the benefit of the drills that they have been doing during the training sessions.

The u8 team were very evenly balanced against a similarly skilled Austin Stacks team, and as a result, it was a closely contested battle throughout the game. We were delighted to welcome up some of the u7 girls from the Academy, who will be with the u8s next season, and it was clear that Siún, Aoibheann, Orlaith and Nancy will not be out of place, as they contributed well during the game in both defence and attack.

From our rotating cast of goalkeepers, including Ava, Peggy, Siún and Aoibheann, through the rest of the team, including Orlaith, Caoimhe and Nancy, Siún, Mia and Micaela, the team gave absolutely everything, ferocious and disciplined in the tackle, with some excellent teamwork and great scores kicked.

The u10s had a tougher game against a strong Austin Stacks team, but even though it was another step up, allied to a number of players who weren’t available, the team worked well together, and they will have learned a lot from the game.

There was some great defence shown by the Mitchel’s players, with the emphasis on tackling. This was seen by the amount of times they dispossessed the Stack players and even when they lost the ball, they stole it right back.

Importantly, they worked great as a team helping each other out especially Nicole, and Natalia in defence. Emma and Caoimhe held midfield and did a lot of running with the ball also Sophie did fantastic in goals in first half and Aishling in second half.

Brooke had a few chances at goals but goalkeeper was out to collect each time and had to be in good form to deny Brooke her scores.

Congratulations to all the players for their efforts and the parents for their support, and many thanks to Austin Stacks for hosting us. Next weekend sees training back at Ballyseedy from 10.15am. All welcome.

UNDER 9 BOYS
Our u9 boys travelled to Ballymac on this soft September morning to play non-competitive go games Ballymac had two pitches set up and we were ready to rock after coach marks warm up drills. We split the teams into two even teams and the football was immense from both teams from the get go. Some lovely goals and points scored and the hand passing has come on an awful lot since the start of the year Well done to all of our boys Training continues this Wednesday 530 Up the Mitchel’s

U 11 boys who played Na gaeil Sunday

UNDER 13 BOYS
U13 Town League Division
Postponed from the weekend due to Confirmation, we instead faced Austin Stacks in Round 2 of the Town League on Tuesday Night. We ran out comfortable winners in the end after a close first half, with all the panel contributing to the effort on the night

FINAL SCORE
John Mitchel’s 2-11
Austin Stacks 1-05

Our final game in the group saw us away to Na Gaeil on Sunday evening. Our town neighbours were a bit of an unknown quantity and as is always the case, they came at us tenaciously from the start, scoring an early goal. We found our range with some nice points and a well worked goal but Na Gaeil struck for a goal again close to half time to leave only 6 points between the teams at the break. Our lads put on a big effort in the 3rd quarter though tagging on some great scores, and this was maintained right to the end – with all players who came on maintaining the effort gone before.

FINAL SCORE
John Mitchel’s 2-23
Na Gaeil 2-07

We now qualify for the Town League Final but must await the completion of outstanding fixtures before we know who we will face. Training continues this Thursday 5.30pm to 6.30pm
