Senior Football League Division 1 Round 3

Kerins O’Rahillys 1-07

Killarney Legion 1-07

We travelled to Dirreen on Saturday night last 11th April to play the locals in Round 3 of the Division 1 County League.  This was a dress rehearsal for the upcoming Club Championship game which will take place in Strand Road on Saturday night next 18th April.

We were at full strength for this fixture following the return of our 3 county players. Playing into a stiff breeze in the first half, we took the game to Legion and led 1-1 to 2 points after 12 minutes the goal coming from a David Moran penalty following a foul on Barry John Keane.

Legion worked their way back into the game mainly through the free taking of their number 14, David O’Sullivan but we were still well placed heading into the interval holding a 1 point lead 1-3 to 5 points.

However, a high ball into our square resulted in the ball ending up in the back of the net leaving us 2 points in arrears at the half time whistle.

This did not seem an insurmountable gap given the strength of the wind which would favour us in the second half.

On the resumption we poured forward in search of scores but a combination of wayward shooting (we shot a total of 10 wides) and a massed defence by the opposition saw us trail by 1 point 1-7 to 1-6 with time running out.

A free from 45 yards following a foul on David Moran brought a welcome equaliser from Jack Savage and a few minutes later the referee blew the full time whistle to give us a share of the points.

We will go toe to toe with Legion again on Saturday night next 18th at 6.30 in the First Round of the Senior Club Championship having home advantage in Strand Road.
