Seniors: We hosted Austin Stacks in round 2 of the Tralee town board league in Healy Park on Sunday last.

The team lined out without the services of Gavin O’Brien ( injured), Tommy Walsh ( exams) and John C O’Connor ( US bound) from the previous round but despite these losses opened brightly with a score from Kieran O’Mahony, operating at centre forward.

The Rock soon equalised but Kieran again found his range to leave us ahead 0-02 to 0-01 after 15 minutes.

The Rock were strong around the middle but through the efforts of Tommy Begley, Ross O’Callaghan and Andrew Thompson many of their attacks were foiled. However, a quick break saw them breach our defence for a goal from Daragh O’Brien and when Shane O’Callaghan fired over we found ourselves 1-02 to 0-02 in arrears on 20 mins.

Kieran O’Mahony pointed a free on 23 mins to leave us just the two points in arrears and then John Ferguson, operating at full forward had 2 fine points from play to leave the score at the short whistle all square at – 1-02 to 0-05.

On the resumption, scores were hard earned but the The Rock now wind assisted took the game to us but each time they went ahead we replied in kind and the scores were level on no less than 3 occasions with Kieran O’Mahony, Shane Brosnan and Kieran again raising white flags.

In the final 5 minutes Stacks once again edged ahead through a Shane O’Callaghan point and though we were unlucky not to get a free at the finish which would have levelled matters this was to be the final score leaving Stacks the winners by the narrowest of margins, 1-06 to 0-8 points.

We had many fine performances on the day and it was good to see Shane Brosnan back in a blue shirt for the first time this year when lining out at midfield.

Good too to see Karl Mulllins back playing after his injury frustrations of the past 2 years and he showed plenty of promise on his return to action.

Our next game in this competition is next Sunday when we host Mitchels in round 3.

Defeat was to be the lot of our senior county players on Sat night when Kerry went down to Mayo at a packed Austin Stack Park; however, David , Jack & Barry John can be satisfied with their contributions with Barry John hitting 1-03 when coming off the bench, Jack a lovely point early in the game and David unlucky with his penalty effort which was brilliantly saved by David Clarke.

Kerry are at home in two weeks time in Killarney when Monaghan are the visitors.

Tralee CBS with Shane Foley, Tom Hoare and Aaron Roche in their ranks must go again against Cork college, Colaiste Chriost Ri when the sides finished level for the second time, again after extra time in Saturday’s Corn Ui Mhuiri semi final played in Ballyvourney.

The club wish to extend their best wishes to our midfielder and All-Ireland winning junior medallist John C O’Connor who this week leaves for the USA for work; John C has been an outstanding servant at all grades for the club and his departure will be sorely missed by the senior team.

Minors: Ardfert were the visitors to Healy Park on Sunday evening in the Tralee town league where we ran out convincing winners on a score line of 4-11 to 1-05; having played into the wind in the first half, the half time score of Ardfert 0-05 to our 0-04 did not point to such a convincing win but we upped the ante in the second half and goals from Aaron Roche (2), Shane McElligott and Rory O’Connor left us in an unassailable position at the finish.

We had top performers in goalkeeper Thomas Houston, Barry Foley, Jordan Foley and the aforementioned goal scorers; a special mention to Conor Hayes, still U-16 who came off the bench and contributed two points.

Juvenile Academy: The launch of our juvenile programme took place on Sunday last in Strand Rd where a large turnout of parents and children took part in a range of activities as part of a fun day; Kerry players were in attendance to support the programme and overall everyone had an enjoyable day.

Registration for all ages takes place on Sat 25th February in the clubhouse- more details next week.

Club Lotto: There was no winner of the club lotto draw on Monday night last ( 6th Feb) where the winning numbers drawn were: 11, 16, 23 & 28. There was one match 3 winner and that was Julee & Jordan who win €25. Next week’s jackpot is €6200, so why not purchase a ticket for €2 for your chance to win or share in this jackpot.

Club Fundraiser: Sat night March 25th will see the club host our major fund raiser for the year when we hold Strictly Come Dancing in the Mount Brandon Hotel.

The official launch of this event will take place on Friday night next 17th Feb @ 8.00 pm in the club house and all are welcome to attend.

This event promises to be a spectacular occasion when members past and present will take to the floor under the tutelage of choreographer Jackie O’Mahony to help raise much needed funds for the club.

All details will be revealed on Friday night so please ensure you mark 25th March in your diaries as this is an event not to be missed.

Sympathy is extended to Bernie Hayes and family on the death of her mother Mary Conway who passed away recently.
