Seniors: A power packed display in the first twenty minutes of the second half when, wind assisted we outscored South Kerry by 2-06 to nil was enough to propel us into round 2A of the county championship where we have been drawn against Dingle with game to take place next Sunday at 2.30pm.

Both sides had late defections with Shane Brosnan having to sit this one out following his hamstring issues with Bryan Sheehan being unable to take his place at midfield for the South Kerry men.

From the outset, this was a free flowing game aided in no small measure by the refereeing of Donal Casey who had a very good game; SK with the aid of the breeze were first on the scoreboard through Paul O’Donoghue and though Barry John levelled shortly afterwards, SK again went in front thanks to Brendan O’Sullivan and when he later added a goal following a great run we found ourselves 1-02 to 0-01 behind after just 6 minutes.

Worse was to follow when again Brendan O’Sullivan combined with Paul O’Donoghue and when he offloaded to Matthew O’Sullivan, Gary Kissane was again fishing the ball out of the net; seven points adrift after 6 minutes certainly threw down the gauntlet to the lads but they responded brilliantly and 4 unanswered points ( 3 from Barry John and one from Jack Savage), saw us trail by just the two points approaching 15 minutes.

The second quarter was no less entertaining with South Kerry taking the game to us and again they lead by by four following two quick points.

We then were camped in their half, despite playing into the wind and were unlucky not to add to our score when missing a no of frees into the tricky wind.

To add to our woes, Tommy Walsh went off injured after 24 minutes when he was having a major impact on the game. We went in at half time trailing by 4, 2-08 to 0-10.

The second half was but four minutes old when a sweeping move saw John Ferguson drill a low shot to the corner of the SK net – it was game on now and with Ross O’Callaghan, Con Barrett, Karl Mullins and Cormac Coffey along with the high fielding Gavin O’Brien to the fore we took a stranglehold on the game and forged ahead with great scores from Gearoid Savage, Barry John (2) and Cormac to leave us 3 points ahead after 15 mins; then a quick move from defence saw Con Barrett fire a shot on goal which was saved but Gearoid Savage followed up quickly to force the ball over the line – we were now 6 points ahead and moving like winners.

From here to the end we closed out the game, with scores coming from John Ferguson & Padraig Griffin to finish out the game 4 points winners on a final score line of 2-16 to 2-12.

We now play Dingle next weekend in the winners round with the prize on offer a quarter final place some time in early Autumn. FOR MORE PHOTOS FROM THE GAME CLICK HERE
