Credit Union Co League Rnd 4 Glenbeigh/Glencar 2-12 Kerins O’Rahillys 2-9

A Man of the Match display by full forward Gavin O’Grady gave Glenbeigh/Glencar a deserved victory in this keenly contested Div 1 game played at Strand Road in very wet conditions.

Glenbeigh\Glencar opened the scoring with two well taken points by Jeremiah Hoare and Podge Griffin. Kerins O’Rahillys replied with points to level the scoring from Jack Savage and a Declan Quill free.

Gavin O’Grady had Glenbeigh /Glencars 3rd point in the 6th minute before Kerins O’Rahillys hit a purple patch with points by Jack Savage four on the trot followed by a great goal by mid fielder Con Barrett to leave them ahead by 1-07 to Glenbeigh\ Glencars 0-03 at the 16th minute.

But Glenbeigh/Glencar thundered into the game and with Colin McGillicuddy outstanding at mid field and ably assisted by Jeremiah Hoare, Fergal Griffin and Bernard Murphy they had 3 rapid points from O’Grady and a penalty expertly put away by O’Grady to leave 2 points between the sides at the 28th minute Kerins O’Rahillys 1-07 to Glenbeigh/Glencars 1-05 Grady added another point to leave the half time score at G\G 1-06 K.O.Rahillys 1-07.

The second half saw G\G open the scoring with two points by the impressive O’Grady to put them ahead by 1-08 to  Kerins O’Rahillys 1-07.

Jack Savage levelled the scores straight after and a great run by Strand Roads Kieran O’Mahoney when he billowed the net from close range put them back in front by 2-08 to 1-08 at the 45th minute.

John O’Connor made it 2-09 to Glenbeigh/Glencars 1-08 straight after but it was the visitors who pushed on with Jack Brosnan, Kieran Doyle, Vincent Hoare and centre fielder Colin McGillicuddy dominant.

It was O’Grady who turned the tide with 4 great points to draw them level at the 51st minute and with time up he was on hand to collect a breaking ball and cooly slotted to the net for a big win for the Mid Kerry men.

A minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect for Kerins O’Rahillys past Chairman Dr. Arthur Spring and player Pat Reynolds who passed away recently.

U14 Boys U14 Boys play Dingle on Wednesday the 6th in the Co League Semi-final.

We played Dingle in the semi final of the county league in Caherina last Wednesday night. A good crowd turned out to see what was a very entertaining match .We played with the breeze in the first half but Dingle got off to the better start with three well taken points, we replied with a Darragh Fitzgerald goal.

Dingle added on six more points before the break but we replied with two well taken goals by Conor Hayes and Conor o Sullivan plus a point by Ben Foley which left us ahead by a point at half time. The second half was a tight affair and scores were hard to come by as both defences were well on top but scores did come as Dingle tagged on five points to our four to leave the sides level at full time 3-05 to 0-14.

Extra time followed but unfortunately we ran out of steam and Dingle went on to win the game on a final score of 1-22 to 3-06. Despite the result last night we can feel very proud of our campaign in the county league.

We had three players on the panel who were playing Gaelic football for the first time so they will only improve going forward plus a lot of our players are under again next year. With more coaching and hard work from the players they can look forward to a great future in the blue and white jersey.

U16 Boys U16 Boys played Castleisland in the Semi-final of the Central Region on Monday the 4th in Castleisland at 7pm. Kerins O’Rahillys came out winners in what was a very closely fought contest. The final score was Kerins O’Rahillys 2-13 Castleisland 3-09.

We played two games over the last week in the County League. Our first game was last Wednesday night in Ballyrickard where we were to strong against Laune Ranger’s B. The game was really decided by half time where we led 4-08 to 0-01.The second half of the game was closer, but we ran out winners on a scoreline of Kerins O’Rahillys 5-10 to Laune Rangers B1-3.

Our second game last Sunday was a much tougher game away to Beaufort, this game was played in conditions more suited to the month of December with a strong wind and a pitch that was waterlogged in parts of it.

We played against the wind in first half and after a wonderful effort we were only 4pts down at half time. The efforts of the first half seemed to take the energy out of us for the second half as we struggled against an older and physical Beaufort team. Final Score Beaufort 1.10 Kerins O’Rahillys 1-02. Once again a big thanks to all the parents who supported the girls in their two games.
