Three days of hits!

In an extremely busy weekend for Kerry badminton the Killarney Sports and Leisure centre was the venue for another round of CPC.ie sponsored Kerry Championships on Friday night which saw the Division 2 and 4 doubles decided for the season.

Saturday action returned to the same venue for the Juvenile Club Tournament then it was off to Tralee Sports Complex on Sunday for the Paddy Sugrue Charity tournament in aid of Tralee Chernobyl Children’s fund.

Further afield some Kerry players were in action in the all-Ireland Club Cups tournament in Galway, congratulations to Fergal Hannon who was a member of the winning team.

Friday night CPC.ie sponsored championship action provided the crowd with fantastic badminton viewing.

Starting with the division 4 results in the ladies Eva Browne and Marie Kennelly from Moyvane defeated Madison Carter and Rita McCarthy from Listowel in a closely fought 21-18 and 21-19 final.

Division 4 men saw Michael Collins and Paudie Kearney from Moyvane win an exciting and well fought final against Niall O’Hanlon (Causeway) and Mike Lucid (Ballyheigue), 21-17, 21-16.

The Division 2 ladies semi-finals were both tight three set games which saw last year’s runner’s up, Saorcha Fitzgerald and Helen Browne of Moyvane, come through to face the new pairing of Niamh Hickey (Killarney) and Fiona Boyle (Kingdom Castleisland) in the final.

With one championship title already heading to the Browne household, Helen was determined to join her daughter with a win. After an extremely close first set which saw them having to battle from behind the Moyvane pairing was ahead winning on the closest of margins, 24-22.

They went on to take the second set and another title back to Moyvane making it three so far for the club.  The Division 2 men’s title however was going to go to another club with an all Kingdom Castleisland final which saw the brothers Aidan and Fergus McCarthy take on Aaron Tan and Mariusz Tusinski.

Both pairings had come through tough 3 setter semi-finals to earn their places in the final and there was no relief in the pace or intensity that these four played at.  Mariusz and Aaron took the title in two close sets with the brothers having to settle for second place, but we get the feeling there may be a rematch in the club some evening!  Aaron is now inline for the treble with the singles and doubles titles already in the bag.

Saturday action was the Juvenile draw for partners club competition, results on the day were:
