Division 2 & 4 Mixed Doubles Championships

Friday night last the final championship night of the year was held in Tralee Sports Complex. We are very thankful to the complex for hosting all of our county championships this season.

It’s brilliant to have such a big hall perfect for badminton here in Kerry. Everyone who came and played in the different championships always seemed to enjoy themselves whether it be on the court or even off it walking around and chatting to those watching the games.

The final mixed doubles competition was held on Friday night and once again it was great to see everyone in good spirits and enjoying themselves. Well done to all the players on the night.

In Division 4, it was a close competition with a very strong entry with lots of the games including both semifinals going to 3 sets.

In the end, the final was won by Mikey Belov Flanagan and Rita McCarthy (Listowel) where they beat Aoife Bowler (Moyvane) and Rahad Rahman (Killarney)

Unfortunately in division 2, the final had to be cut short after a very good first set going all the way to 24-22.

But early in the second set Ivan Rusov (Listowel) got injured as he moved toward the shuttle and couldn’t continue playing and so he and his partner Helen Browne (Moyvane) had to retire meaning that Samira Hayes and Brendan McGovern (Killarney) got to take home the title.

All of us at Kerry badminton would like to wish Ivan a speedy recovery from his injury.

Finally, as that was our final championship night of the season, a big thank you must be said to all those who helped in the running and organising of the competitions and also to Tom Bradley for taking pictures at each night.
