Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport, Paschal Donohoe TD, launches the ‘National Walk To School Week’ with schoolchildren.

SCHOOLS all around the county and country are getting ready to take part in a national campaign this coming week to promote the benefits of physical activity on a school journey.

Starting on May 11 and running until May 15, there will be a ‘National WOW (Walk on Wednesday) Day’ event held on the Wednesday. Green Schools throughout Ireland will be taking part in the week to promote walking to school.

It is hoped that by bringing awareness to this week, that more drivers in the area will be aware and alert of children on the roads/footpaths.

It’s hoped that the initiative will result in thousands of pupils, their parents and teachers walking to and from school. This is the seventh year Green-Schools has run National Walk to School Week, which will be promoted to over 1500 participating schools.Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport, Paschal Donohoe TD.
