KINGDOM Swimming Club have welcomed their newest member into the A squad.

Mariia Maryntsera from Donetsk in Ukraine had to flee from her country with her mother and brother, leaving her sister and father behind.

Her sister is a trainee doctor and is helping wounded soldiers. Mariia is a member of the Ukrainian Junior Artistic Swim team (synchronised swimming) and has won many medals.

Her team’s hopes of travelling to the World Championships in Canada have now been dashed because of the war.

Tralee International Resource Centre made contact with Spela Cvar, secretary of Kingdom Swimming Club and between them they arranged entry to the club.

Marie Fitzgibbon of Swimheadz generously donated swimming gear for Mariia. Mariia is now a student of Mercy Mounthawk and on her first day recognised some familiar faces having met them at training in the Sport’s Complex.

The club is thrilled to have Mariia in their ranks and hope that more clubs around the town will welcome the new arrivals from Ukraine.
