Basketball:  Congratulations to Edward Sheehy and his Tralee Warriors team who won the U20 National basketball League at the weekend. Edward was captain of the team.

Senior Mens Co. League: Yesterday our Senior Mens Team hosted Listowel Emmets in Round 2 of the County League Division 2. The opening 10 minutes failed to produce a score but eventually Listowel converted a free to take the lead.

The outstanding Devon Burns added two 40m frees and Dara Devine added two more frees to leave us ahead 4 points to one after 20 minutes.

Two points from play for Listowel cut the gap to just a point before great points from play by Tomás Ó hAiniféin and Seán O’Connor left Na Gaeil ahead 6 point to 3.

The final score of the half was a free from Dara Devine, though Na Gaeil were lucky not to concede a goal soon after when Bryan Sweeney got inside our defence but he pulled his shot just wide.

The second half started just like the first with Listowel shooting 3 wides. Another Devon Burns free stretched Na Gaeil’s lead to 5 points. Soon afterwards Devon produced a great save to keep Listowel at bay and they missed the resulting 45.

A point from Kieran O’Donovan extended our lead to 6 points but Listowel hit back immediately with a point of their own from play.

Five minutes later Listowel converted a free and the momentum was now firmly with the visitors. Their pressure resulted in 2 more converted frees which left just 2 points between the sides with only 5 minutes remaining.

Crucially it was Na Gaeil who added another free from the boot of Dara Devine to push the gap out to 3 point before Listowel scored a consolation point to leave the final score Na Gaeil 0-10, Listowel Emmets 0-8.

U11 Boys: Well done to our under 11 boys who had their last training session in the MTU yesterday. They are looking forward to returning to their home soil in Killeen next Sunday at 11am.

U13 Green Team: John Mitchels ‘B’ 2-9, Na Gaeil ‘B’ 0-3. In very tough conditions in Ballyseede our Green team fell to their first defeat in this year’s County League.

Playing with the aid of a strong breeze in the first half Na Gaeil settled well, scoring through Jonathan Sheehy and Ben O’Sullivan.

Despite exerting pressure on their hosts and combination of wayward shooting and stout defence from Mitchels meant we trailed four points to three at the break.

The second half against the wind was always going to be a difficult ask and despite storming effort from Conor Reidy, Jayden Chalke and Ben O’Donovan we couldn’t register the scores our play deserved.

Congrats to Mitchels who played some super football in tough conditions. Team; Sean O’Connell; Daragh Sheehan, Jude Hogan, Ned Breen; Adam Fitzgerald, Conor Reidy, Jude Doyle; Jayden Chalke, Paddy Hennessey; Kieran Feely, Jonathan Sheehy, Ben O’Donovan; William Scanlon, Ben O’Sullivan, Vinny Hannon.

U13 White Team: Na Gaeil ‘A’ 5-10, John Mitchels ‘A’ 2-10. The White team made it two from two in Division 1 of the County League with a well deserved win away to John Mitchels.

Winning the coin flip the hosts opted to play against the strong breeze in the first half. The Na Gaeil men knew the had to make a fast start and they duly delivered.

Quick fire goals from Eoin Tansley and Andy Costello were sandwiched between a point from play from Tom Slattery. Tackles were tough but fair from both sides but Na Gaeil kept up their dominance with Costello and Slattery scoring from play.

At the back Éanna Leahy and Dean O’Leary were defending manfully to say the least. Mitchels showed their class and bagged 1-2 with out reply leaving the visitors 3-5 to 1-5 up at the break.

Fortuitously the wind that affected the first half nearly completely died at the break greatly helping the Killeen side.

Na Gaeil dropped a little deeper, knowing the dangermen Mitchels possessed but had the ability to break out at pace when needed. Philip Doyle, Rory John O’Brien were superb at the back while Danny Brick and Aaron O’Donovan seemed to be everywhere.

In the end Costello sealed the win with a breakaway goal. Well done to players and thanks to the parents for their vocal support. Training continues in MTU this week and we host Legion on Thursday 13th April in the next round of the County League

U15 Boys: Our U15 A team started off their Division 1 Co. League campaign away to Dr. Crokes last Wednesday evening. From the throw in this was an intense affair with both sets of teams playing with a really high tempo.

Crokes got off to the better start, getting some early scores from their inside line and led 1-02 to no score after 10 mins.

A point from Samson Abubakar opened the score board for our lads and then followed by a free from Danny Kingston brought us to 1-02 to 0-02. Full backline of Donncha Hartnett, Gearóid Moynihan and Jack Kelly worked tirelessly to keep the Crokes full forward line at bay but they still managed two more points and then on 20 minutes Ryan Sheehy got a crucial goal making the score line 1-02 to 1-04 in favour of Crokes.

Our half backline of Victor Malakhov, Maurice Costello and Cillian Griffin were immense in the work rate they provided both in defense and attack. Jacob Drzymala in goals was excellent and his kickouts and fielding under high balls was really important in that first half.

Approaching halftime Crokes managed 4 more points and another free from Na Gaeil’s Danny Kingston followed by a well taken point from play by half forward Brian Heaphy left the halftime score at Dr.Crokes 1-08 to Na Gaeil 1-04.

The second half proved much the same and we introduced Karl Cronin and Sean Cantwell into the backs at half time for Donncha Hartnett and Victor Malakhov.

Our midfield pairing of Samson and Darragh Callaghan imposed themselves more on the game and supplied great ball to Fionn O Dálaigh, Ryan Sheehy and Brian Reidy on the inside line.

Outside them were Philip McEneaney, Danny Kingston and Brian Heaphy who all worked really hard to gain possession. Scores now were nip and tuck and hard work by Fionn O Dálaigh inside earned us a penalty which Danny Kingston stepped up and struck well to hit the net for goal.

That followed by a point from Brian Reidy and 4 more frees from Danny left the scoreline on 2-09 to 2-09 after 45 mins.

Crokes then came back strong and hit 1-02 to no reply. We were under pressure but hard work again from our boys saw Brian Heaphy hit the net and Ryan Sheehy again two minutes later hit the net to leave the final score at Na Gaeil 4-09 to Crokes 3-11.

Thanks to Dr. Crokes for a great game and referee Mike Brosnan. Our B Team are out next week as their game was cancelled unfortunately due to pitch availability.
