U9 Boys: Our under 9’s had a great mini tournament in Ardfert yesterday. 26 boys turned out for two Na Gaeil 11 a-side-teams and played against Ardfert, St Pats and Churchill.

U13 Boys: U13 Division 2 County Final: Na Gaeil 4-10, Austin Stacks 1-12. Well done to the Na Gaeil U13’s who defeated Austin Stacks in the County Division 2 final in John Mitchels yesterday evening.

Both teams had met previously this year and this time familiarity brought a fantastic game of football, helped by sensible refereeing by Gary Kissane.

A downpour prior to throw-in made conditions awkward for both sides in the opening period. Austin Stacks shaded the opening period, capitalising on some defensive errors to lead at the interval 1-7 to 1-4.

Our goal came through Andy Costello from a delightful pass from Aaron Donovan who had a superb game from centre forward. After half time, three points down and under serious pressure from their opponents, Ben O’Sullivan pulled off a phenomenal one on one save which would have put us six down.

When Na Gaeil countered, Costello rattled the Austin Stacks net with a magnificent goal after good work from wing forward James Kelly. O’Sullivan’s kick outs were finding their targets as the men in green got into their groove.

In the home stretch Eoin Tansley played a captain’s role with boundless energy, Costello was double jobbing at fourteen and defending manfully and Nathan Anthony was showing his trickery high up the pitch.

Breakaway scores from a free from Costello, a worldie off the outside of the right from Tansley sealed a deserved victory for the men in green.

Rory John O’Brien had his best game of the year at corner back, who showed great composure in collecting a mountain of short kick outs.

Jake Barrett also flourished when the game was there to be won, creating the key goal with an excellent tackle and brilliant quick ball to Donovan.

Overall it truly was a magnificent team effort. A huge thank you to the vocal support from young & old Na Gaeil supporters.

Commiserations to Austin Stacks who played a sporting game and no doubt these boys will have many a battle in the years ahead.
