Senior Ladies: Our Senior Ladies got their County League campaign underway last Monday night when they defeated Dr. Crokes by 2 points. Tonight they’re at home to Rathmore in Round 2 at 7.30pm.

Senior Men: Last Saturday evening our senior team travelled to Currow for Round 10 of the County League. Weather conditions were poor with heavy showers and a strong breeze making it difficult for the teams as well as the handful of hardy supporters in attendance.

Na Gaeil elected to play with the breeze in the first half but it proved to be tricky. Our lads dominated possession from the throw-on but kicked a couple of wides before Dara Devine got our first score after 3 minutes.

A misplaced pass in the Currow defence saw Dara add a second point and this was soon followed by a point from Jack Bourke. Then came Na Gaeil’s first goal. The ball was played into Kieran O’Connor in the left corner forward position.

He played a one-two with his brother Seán before cutting in along the end line and rifling the ball into the roof of the Currow net. From the kickout Jack Bourke added another point & Na Gaeil were coasting, 1-4 to no score, after just 9 minutes.

Currow did finally get on the scoresheet before Jimi Ó Suilleabháin came up from defence to kick a lovely score to restore our 7 pointadvantage. Currow however responded with a well-worked goal followed by a point to bring them right back into the contest with 13 minutes remaining in the first half.

Thankfully Na Gaeil composed themselves again and added points from Damien Bourke, Kieran O’Connor, Jack Bourke and a free from Dara Devine to lead by 1-9 to 1-2 at the break.

Despite playing against the breeze in the second half Na Gaeil continued to enjoy the majority of possession but kicked 3 wides in a row. Eventually a Dara Devine free increased our lead to 8 points but Currow were dogged and landed the next 3 points without reply.

A point from the excellent Declan Cooney in the 27th minute was cancelled out by a Currow point moments later but it was Na Gaeil who finished the stronger with a point from Eoghan Daly and the icing on the cake – a goal from Declan Cooney after good work by substitutes Rory Reen and Eoghan Daly. Final score: Currow 1-6, Na Gaeil 2-12.
