U 14 Na Gaeil

U 14’s played two Central Region league games last week. On Monday, they hosted Ballymac in round four of the league. Both teams were missing a number of players and as a result, it was agreed to play 13 a side. Na Gaeil opened the scoring but Ballymac immediately replied with their first point of the game.

Na Gaeil looked like they were in control of the game when they scored two quick goals to open a six point lead. However, the visitors had other ideas and scored 2-1 without reply to lead for the first time. Na Gaeil were soon back in the lead with their third goal of the half but the lead was short lived as Ballymac struck back with another goal. Na Gaeil got the final score of the half to leave the score at the interval Na Gaeil 3-2, Ballymac 3-2.

Na Gaeil got the first score of the second half, but as in the first half, the visitors immediately replied with a score. The teams swapped the next two scores before Na Gaeil were awarded a penalty which was converted to open a three point lead. The game continued from end to end and Ballymac scored a goal and a point to lead once again.

However, Na Gaeil did not panic and got the next three scores to leave four points between the teams as the game entered the final minutes. Again, Ballymac refused to give up and they scored their fifth goal of the game to give them hope of snatching victory. However that was the final score of the match, which left the final score Na Gaeil 5-6, Ballymac 5-5.

On Thursday, we travelled to Gallarus to play An Ghaeltacht in round five of the league. Due to holidays and injuries, we were missing a number of players and travelled with fifteen players of which five were U 12.

Unfortunately, we were beaten by a better Gaeltacht team. Despite this there were plenty positives to be taken from the match. Five U12 players started the game including four players making their debut at U14 level. All players performed excellently and learned a lot from the experience.

U 12 Training for U12 Boys continues at 6.30pm Thursdays

U 6

Wind and rain did not deter these youngsters last Sunday from training as hard as usual. The wetter they got the more stuck in they seemed to get! Picking up the ball with the foot was practised along with soloing and kicking. The match at the end saw Denis’ and Richie’s teams battling it out. Denis said Football was the winner that day!!

Ladies We played away to Legion on Monday night in Division 2 of the County League. We were missing quite a few players due to holidays and other commitments but we managed to get 13 players.

Aine made her U16 debut in goals with Megan, Ria and Aimee defending stoutly in front of her. We got off to a good start with Mary getting us an early 2 points, Clodagh Mc Hugh kept creating space in the corner forward position for herself but was unlucky not to get herself a couple of goals. Sibeal and Kay combined well to get a point.

Mary made a burst through after Dearbhla found her with a great pass to score our 1st goal. Muire followed this up after a great run with a fine point. As the 1st half was coming to an end, Clodagh O Connor found Brid with a pass and Brid coolly slotted it into the back of the net.

Legion came at us hard for the 2nd half and scored a couple of early goals to get themselves back into the game, Sarah won the ball on her own 45 and laid it off to Meagan who ran at the Legion defence, stepped left , then right and found the back of the net. All the girls rolled their sleeves up for the fight to the finish with Sibeal picking off another 3 points. Sarah made another great run and got a point. Dearbhla found Mary again with another pass and Mary hit the back of the net. Clodagh made another run up the pitch, passed to Meagan for another point, Kay switched to defence to help us seal a great victory.

We played away on Thursday night in Division 2 of the County League against John Mitchels. We started brightly with points from Meagan, Abi and Clodagh O Connor.

Our defenders were marking tight with Aimee and Ria in great form in the backs conceding no score in the 1st half. Dearbhla and Sarah were driving the team forward from the backs with some great runs. Clodagh and Meagan were feeding the forwards with Abi getting a goal and Laoise scoring a point.

We made changes for the 2nd half with Megan Fernane defending well and Freya coming into midfield scoring 2 points. Dearbhla made a great block feeding Sarah who scored another point.

Clodagh McHugh was causing all kinds of trouble in the forwards but was fouled and injured as she was running in on goal. Brid got us another goal before Jadyn drove through the Mitchels defence scoring a goal and a point. Muire was chasing and was unlucky not to get a couple of scores due to some fine defending from Mitchels. This was another fine team performance.

We would like to wish Clodagh McHugh a speedy recovery after her injury during the game
