Part Of Castle Street To Be Closed Off Over Safety Fears

Following the structural assessment of a building on Castle Street in Tralee this afternoon, and in consultation with An Garda Síochána, Kerry County Council has decided to close the street to all vehicular traffic until further notice in the interest of public safety.

Building works are  going on at Baily’s Corner where they are extending out through the former European Estate Agents premises to create a larger bar and street frontage onto Castle Street. The bar can still be accessed from the rear at Courthouse Lane.

Limited pedestrian access will be maintained but there will be no access for vehicles to the street between the junctions of Ashe Street and Edward Street.

Kerry County Council structural engineers are liaising with the owner of the building with a view to addressing the structural issues at the earliest opportunity.

With the ongoing street closures and severe traffic flow regulations, would the traders/shopkeepers see the advantages of partially closing down their premises to facilitate a proper shop front and interior designer. Nothing as bad as overstocked shops where nothing pleases the eye with everything heaped on top of something else. And for Gods sake bring back the bees and the hanging baskets.
