THE children at CBS enjoyed a healthy start to the school year as their annual healthy eating week took place.
Junior infants enjoyed a healthy Teddy Bears picnic with cheese and brown bread and fruit treats while Doc McStuffins, Mikey Mouse and friends also made an appearance.
“We usually kickstart the year with a healthy eating week to educate the children about making healthier choices,” said Patricia Sharpe, Social Personal Health Education (SPHE) Co-ordinator.

“We focus very much on their school lunches and with the growing problem of obesity in children, where a quarter of pupils in school are obese. It’s not just a once-off week. During the year we’ll continue to remind them to make healthier choices and hopefully it’ll make some small change.”
“We give out leaflets to the junior and senior infants suggesting to the parents to make some small changes like cutting down on sugary drinks and food and to include more fruit and vegetables in their diet,” she said.
Members of the Parents Association were on hand to help during the week, while businesses around the town like Horan’s Fruit and Veg, Kingdom Stores and Lee Strand contributing.
