PIETA has announced it is on a recruitment drive to hire additional therapists for its Tralee centre due to an increased demand for services.

In Kerry alone, 36% of clients presenting to Pieta have attempted suicide and one in three have been bereaved by suicide. Some of the triggers identified included depression and anxiety (62%), loneliness (46%) and relationship issues (29%).

The national suicide and self-harm prevention charity employs more than 200 qualified therapists and support staff across 20 locations nationally and its services are in greater demand than ever before.

Speaking about the recruitment, Pieta Regional Manager, Sinead Raftery said; “Here at Pieta, we envision a world where suicide, self-harm and stigma can be replaced by hope, self-care, and acceptance and we welcome new therapists with the same vision.

We have seen a 30% increase in calls and texts overall which shows that our services are needed now more than ever. I would like to acknowledge the support of the people in Kerry and – their generosity for the recent Darkness Into Light Sunrise appeal, proudly supported by Electric Ireland, has made this recruitment drive a reality. We are extremely thankful for this.”
