RACHEL Walsh, Ballyheigue, and Úna O’Connell, Kilflynn, will take part in a skydive on July 23 to raise vital funds for the Meningitis Research Foundation.

They will hold a raffle in Kerins O’Rahilly’s club on July 1, with spot prizes donated by the generous businesses around Tralee.

Rachel said; “The cause is very close to both of us. I actually had meningitis twice, once when I was eight, and again when I was 18. It was bacterial meningitis and septicemia the first time, which is the more dangerous version of it. A lot more life threatening, but I was very lucky that it was caught very fast. My parents were lucky enough to know the symptoms to watch out for and brought me to the doctor in time.”

The girls have set up a gofundme page for people who wish to make a donation to the cause and are hoping to raise €1,000. All funds go directly to the charity to help them continue the work they have been doing.

The girls have received spot prize donations from CH Chemists, Benner’s, Henneberys, and their former school, Brookfield College.

You can visit their GoFundMe page here or buy lines from their sponsorship cards from the post office in Kilflynn.
