A REUNION was held in The Rose Hotel on Saturday night where members of a local group reminisced about the days of Tralee Jogging Club.

Formed back in the 1980s, the club, boasted many members around that time as Mike O’Donnell explained.

“It was in 80s when marathon running was gaining popularity. It was just for fun really but some members were serious runners, like Geoff Stacey here has 25 marathons completed and Johnny Conway has 31 and they would have come in under three hours.”

“There was 40 or 50 of us running at night during the week, of all levels of ability. This is the first time we’ve got together in a long while, so it’s nice to meet up,” said Mike.

It sounds like Tralee Jogging Club was a precursor to the current ‘Born To Run’ club in town and judging by the laughter and stories emanating from the group of around 30 people gathered when we visited, we’re sure they had just as much fun.
