Rise In Detections Of Drugs For Personal Use In Tralee

garda_1THERE was a 40% increase in possession of drugs for personal use detections in Tralee in 2016 so far this year, compared to the same period in 2015, but a decrease of 6% in possession for sale or supply incidents in the area.

Kerry Garda Chief Superintendent, Con Cadogan, delivered the latest figures for drugs and offensive weapons incidents at the meeting of the Joint Policing Committee in Kerry County Council on Monday.

Incidents of possession of drugs for sale or supply in Kerry dropped in the January 1 to October 31 period of this year by 5%, from 65 in 2015 to 62 this year. Of these 33 were in Tralee (-6%), 24 in Killarney (+13%) and five in Listowel (-50%).

However there was a 13% rise in possession of drugs for personal use detections in the county with 280 compared to 247 in 2015. Of these, 139 were in Tralee (+40%), 113 in Killarney (+20%) and 28 in Listowel (-42%).

With regard to possession of offensive weapons (not firearms), there were 30 so far this year compared with 27 in the same period in 2015, an increase of 11%.

I dont believe any of these statistics id say its 10 times worse.. i live in an apartment in the town center around Maine Street near Radio Kerry and see people openly dealing drugs on the street and couldnt care less !!! WHY ?? NOT A GUARD TO BE SEEN ANYWHERE …..Tralee Gardai have lost control of the drug scene in kerry and worse its getting !!! They are totally under funded !!!
