Rise In Drugs Possessions In Kerry This Year

garda_1THERE was a rise in detections of possession of drugs for personal use in Kerry so far this year, compared to the same period last year, according to the latest statistics from Kerry Gardaí.

The figures were revealed at the meeting of the Joint Policing Committee at Kerry County Council on Friday, by Kerry Division Chief Superintendent David Sheahan.

In all, there were 218 detections for drugs and offensive weapon possessions between January and June 29 this year, compared to 195 in the same period in 2015.

However, the number of detections of possession of sale or supply fell from 35 in 2015 (January to June) to 31 so far this year. There were 141 detections of possession of drugs for personal use in 2015 (Jan-June) but 176 so far this year, a rise of over 16%.

There was a fall in detections of possession of an offensive weapon, from 19 in 2015 (Jan-June) to 11 so far this year.
