St Brendans BasketballMen’s Senior County League

St. Brendan’s 56

Gneeveguilla 49

In our second outing in County League action we welcomed Gneeveguilla to Moyderwell last Wednesday. The very fit and physical visitors got off to a great start and led 19-13 after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw St. Brendan’s settle more into the game and baskets from Fergal O’Sullivan, Nathan Roche and Kieran Donaghy narrowed the deficit by the half time buzzer.

The third quarter saw the home side starting five points up and raised the tempo to really bring the game to Gneeveguilla.

Baskets from Conor Donaghy, Fergal O’Sullivan and Darren O’Sullivan saw St. Brendan’s score 23 in the quarter and hold the visiting side to just five points. Gneeveguilla fought back in the final quarter but could not bridge the gap and the home side held on for a seven-point victory. Well done to all the players and a special thanks to Pa Carey for looking after the table at the last minute.

Also it was great to have Kieran Donaghy back in a St. Brendan’s uniform and he brings all his experience to the quality of our strong Senior Team.

St. Brendan’s 16 Team Kerry Cougars 24

Cougars got off to a good start and outscored the hosts by 12 points to 6 in the first half with Liam Kingston, Jack Clapham and Graham Sheehy all landing nice baskets. Sam McCarthy fought hard and secured a number of offensive rebounds that he was unlucky not to convert into scores.

Brendan’s play improved in the second half but Cougars Daire Murphy continued to be a threat near the basket and kept his side in front with some handy scores. Jack Clapham kept Brendan’s in touch with two nice scores in a row and Garry Lynch was fouled and swished his two free shots.

Sam McCarthy added another score from a rebound and Ryan McHugh fired in a lovely shot however Daniel Bowler was very unlucky not to score with a number of very close shots. While there was little between these two teams Cougars just edged out Brendan’s in each quarter with the final result 24 to 16.
