Under 15s(2003)

Park’s new look U15 squad acquitted themselves very well in Cork at the College Corinthians tournament on Sunday last.  Pitted against the hosts in the opening fixture, Park started very well with Sean Broderick, Ryan Guerin, Shoun Kedzierski and Adam Walker to the fore but lack of match practice told and Corinthians pounced to open the scoring after 15 minutes.

On the resumption, Park were caught cold from a set piece and despite the best efforts of Leonard, Leonid, Mark Curtin and Scott Rumgay, we were unable to get back into the game and when Corinthians scored after a goalmouth scramble, the Corkonians were truly flattered by their winning margin.

In the second game Park came up against Waterford kingpins Villa Utd. It looked ominous for the Tralee lads when Villa scored a very preventable goal in the first minute and held the lead into the half time break.

Spurred on by James Charles and Darren Griffin at the back, Jack Twamley and Leon Gallagher in midfield and Matt Healy up front, Park stormed back into the game in the second half and their equaliser was a thing of beauty. Broderick rolled a short kickout to Guerin who swept it wide to Walker.

The wing back played a reverse pass to Charles who launched a superb long pass into the inside right channel where David Callaghan latched onto it and smashed his shot across the keeper into the far corner. Park also had a goal from Matt Healy ruled out for offside and were full value for the draw.

In their final game, Park met Clonmel Town knowing that a win should guarantee second place, as would a draw if results elsewhere went their way.

After a tense struggle in which Park were well served by Dan Fisher and Vincent Murphy, neither side managed to break the deadlock, but with Villa losing to Corinthians, Park finished a very creditable second place in the group.

Overall, it was a fine squad performance from the Tralee side with Sean Broderick outstanding in goals, Ryan Guerin an inspiring skipper, with good support from James Charles and Darren Griffin and Adam Walker impressive at wing back.

The midfield duo of Jack Twamley and Leon Gallagher worked tirelessly throughout and David Callaghan was always dangerous up front but Park’s Man of the Tournament was highly influential midfielder Shoun Kedzierski.

Great credit is due to College Corinthians who were amiable and efficient hosts and showed how this type of tournament can be run.

Other News

The Kerry 15’s made history on Thursday night . They kicked off the U15 SSE League against Cork in Bishopstown. Their first game in the League. Having started the game very brightly, Sean McGrath (Park FC) puts Kerry 1-0 up after 23 minutes. First ever goal in the 15’s League of Ireland.1-1 at half time with Cork’s Sean Cummins equalising in the 35th minute. 2-1 Cork with bizarre goal as it rebounded off referee into path of Chris O’Connor who made no mistake in the 42nd minute. Colin Walsh (Park FC) levels matters with a cracking strike but then Cork go 3-2 up in next attack. Well done to all involved. A tough opening fixture but plenty of positives to take from it. Up next is a home tie with Wexford FC following their opening 9-0 thrashing of Cobh Ramblers.
