Under 12 (2006)

St. Brendan’s Park FC U12A 5 : 1 Inter Kenmare U12A
Our U12 A-Team entertained Inter Kenmare on Saturday under perfect conditions. After a slow start a wicked deflection give the opponents a One nil lead. We responded with some great play resulting with Jack Slattery rounding the keeper to level the score going into half time at 1-1 .Two excellent quick fire goals from Jay Jay not long after the restart put Park 3-1 up and well in control. Another great goal from Jack Sattery and also a fabulous through-ball for Jay Jay to complete his hat-trick with a fine finish to put us 5-1 up and the game to bed.

A great all-round team performance with notable mentions of Andrew Kerins, Nathan Aherne, Jack Slattery, Jay Jay and a top performance from our ever reliable keeper Oshìn O’Halloran.

Killarney Athletic U12B 2 : 2 St. Brendan’s Park Fc U12B

St Brendan’s Park FC Under 12 Bs took on the might of Killarney Athletic Under 12 Bs in a thrilling contest on Saturday morning.

We began edgily with Killarney Athletic dominating the early exchanges and after twenty minutes Athletic deservedly went in front with the ball prodded home in a goalmouth scramble.  The goal encouraged Athletic who pressed hard for a second, but we didn’t lose their shape and their solid defence of Finn, Rory, Zach and Cillian and Matuaz in goal held firm to keep us in it at half-time against a team that had averaged 4 goals per game in their previous outings.

“Keep believing, we can still do this,” was the cry from team coach Paul, as we began to settle and come more into the game.  Sean Heaslip started to hare down the wing and deliver dangerous crosses into the box, while Trey, captain for our first game, Sean Whelan, Jamie and Adam battled hard to convert, but it was the skill of Eldion drilling into the corner which brought us level.

Following our equaliser the action swung from end-to-end with the enthusiastic crowd roaring on their respective teams.  Athletic, speedy on the counter attack, lashed a shot against the post, while we at the other end thundered a shot off the bar, before Athletic regained the lead following a fine strike.  With William, Odhran and Adam now pouring forward in search of a leveller, it fell to the dancing feet of Mohammed, our man-of-the-match, to score the equaliser.

Both sides pushed hard for a winner but it was not meant to be and the two teams shook hands at the end, honours even.

Under 13 (2005)

Both our under thirteen teams are playing this weekend with our A team at home to Killarney Athletic and our B team make the short trip to Fenit.

Under 14 (2004)

Tralee Dynamos 0 Park FC 7

Park U14 A’s had their first league game of the season and were anxious to start with a victory. While the match was an away game the journey was short with the opposition being our close neighbours Tralee Dynamo’s.

It was a beautiful morning for soccer and the pitch was in really good condition considering the rain that had fallen recently.

The early exchanges were even with Dynamos working very hard around the middle of the pitch to stop Park from getting any real flow in their game. The first opportunity fell to Colin Doody from a ball from the left from Cianan Cooney.

His right footed shot was cleared off the line. Chances were proving hard to come by but when the ball fell to Sean O’ Connor in the 13th minute outside the box, he stuck an accurate effort into the bottom corner leaving the keeper with no chance.

Park settled down after that and in the 17th minute a corner delivered by Colin was superbly finished by Messieh Chirwa to make it two up to the Park. Set pieces were proving to be our best attacking platform and in the 31st minute a well worked corner between Colin and Ben Hanafin, from which Ben produced an excellent delivery to the back post which was finished from close in by Cianan to make it 3-0 at half time.

The closest that Dynamos had come in the first half was from a couple of free kicks which were dealt with well by our defence.

We made some changes for the second half and early on a couple of those changes Cillian Murphy and David Feely combined well to play the ball through to Colin on the angle of the box who finished coolly into the corner of the net to make it four to the Park.

The Park were well on top now and following good work by Messieh in closing down the keeper he played the ball to Sean O’Connell who finished to make it 0-5. It could have been six when Messieh found himself with a goal opportunity of his own in the 19th minute but headed just wide.

It was six not much later when a Sean O’Connor cross fell to Cillian who finished expertly. The final score and the icing on the cake was a superb individual effort from Cianan late in the game.

It was a good result but we know there is much to improve as the season progresses. Well done to the lads.

St. Brendan’s Park Fc U16A 7 : 2 Killarney Athletic U16A

We eventually got our league campaign off to a flying start at home to Killarney Athletic on Saturday with a 7 – 2 victory & even though the margin seemed comfortable it was anything but as the Athletic lads battled until the end with 10 men for much of the second half.

After a very slow start we managed to string some passes together before Mervyn went on a run into the box leaving all in his wake before firing an unstoppable shot to the net for the opening score after fifteen minutes.  Three minutes later John Carmody let rip  from outside the box for surely a contender  for goal of the season to put us two up. Michael Lally then conceded a peno to give the Athletic lads a lifeline before halftime.

Another lovely move involving a Mervyn & John one-two had John score his second of the half to leave us three one up at the break.

That lifeline however lasted just five minutes after Athletics keeper tripped Terence Carmody in the box giving ref Willie Gorman no option but to show him a straight red & Terence’s peno was saved by the sub keeper.  Terence had made amends five minutes later with a last touch to his brother goal bound shot to claim the goal. Devon Burns made some fine one on one saves to keep our lead intact while Nick Izehi & Cian Purcell were rocks in defence.

In the centre of the pitch Nathan Holden & Elliot Lynch were winning tackles all over the place while at left back Luke Dennehy looked very comfortable on the ball & provided plenty of options for Darragh Moriarty to drive up the wing.

TJ McMahon came off the bench at halftime to add to the scoring with a lovely finish before Athletic rattled the net for the second time with an unstoppable free from outside the box after we gave away a needless foul. Eventually John Carmody finished off his hat-track after rattling the crossbar earlier with a fine finish with his right. Not to be outdone the midfield dynamo Nathan Holden finished the scoring to leave the final score 7 – 2.

We wish TJ & Jack Kirby speedy recoveries from their injuries, get well soon lads !

Men of the match: John Carmody & Elliot Lynch.

Tralee Trophy World Under Div. 2

St. Brendan’s Park Fc U16B 3 : 2 Fenit Samphires

Our 16 B’s recorded their second win of the league after a hard fought win against an ex-Park loaded Fenit on Saturday evening on a score line of 3 – 2. Robert Kerins opened the scoring after twelve minutes after the Fenit keeper had made a fine double save. Straight from the tip off we won back the ball & Jacob Radulescu hit the net for our second in less than a minute. Between this & halftime we could have had three or four more but for some last gasp saves & poor finishing but Slywester Trafny eventually getting our third before the break with a neat turn & shot.

It wasn’t however all one way traffic as Fenit came close on a number of occasions but for DJ Griffin making at least three smart saves & Ryan O Sullivan clearing off the line.  Liam Magee & Peter Dineen had a lot to do but dealt with the job magnificently through out. Conor Kavanagh & Ryan both played outstanding & ran themselves into the ground.

The second half was backs to the walls stuff as Fenit threw the kitchen sink at us & on fifty minutes got what they deserved with a good finish. Within ten minutes it was three two after a free deceived DJ to leave us  hanging on. Despite both sides having a number of chances,  some very good chances, that was the way it finished.

But for the brilliant display by Jordan Mason & also Liam Magee in centre mid in the second half & Robert Kerins who played in about four different positions we surely wouldn’t have come away with three points. At last the full time whistle blew & our lads enjoyed the win,  well done to all sixteen players who gave it everything.

Man of the match: Liam Magee.

Tralee Dynamos 0 v 3 St. Brendan’s Park FC
We opened our league campaign with a comfortable win in this local derby.
Our captain Aaron Ward opened the scoring with a left foot volley from twenty yards with twenty minutes gone on the clock. We missed at a few excellent chances to add to our lead but were guilty of some poor finishing , at the break we held a slender lead one nil.
We started the second half brightly dominating possession and our pressure finally paid off with Jordan Barry doubling our tally , we trebled our advantage with Adam Ward scoring from a twenty five yard free kick. Our  defense were very solid not allowing Dynamos have any attempt on goal in the game led by Shane Jordan and Jack O’Donaghue.
Best on the day for us were Aaron Ward,Conor O’Brien,JR Tshikato, Leon Shlemba

Asdee Rovers 3 : 3 St. Brendan’s Park Fc

Our Senior were away to Asdee Rovers on Sunday morning having been three one up thanks to two goals from the new scoring sensation Mikey Burke and the other coming from Milos Avric.

But we couldn’t hold on to that score line and  unfortunately we let Asdee get a foothold in the second half and they responded by hitting two goals so we had to settle for a point in the end.
