THE ‘Star’, Kieran Donaghy, will switch on the Christmas Lights in The Square at 5pm on Saturday, November 28 to herald the start of the 2015 Christmas Spraoí Tralee.

The Kerry Captain will join the Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Thomas McEllistrim and one pupil from a Tralee primary school (chosen from a colouring competition) to switch on the lights during a fun afternoon of free music, colour and excitement.

Free on-street parking, a Christmas Food and Craft Market, family-friendly activities, office chair racing, fireworks, daily prizes, panto, theatre, carol singing, loads of shopping and of course Santa and his helpers are on the list of things to see and do in the county capital.

The President of Tralee Chamber Alliance, John Drummey, said: “Christmas is a very important time of year for the business community in Tralee. It’s a time when the retailers, restaurateurs and publicans all benefit. We are grateful to our members whose subscriptions help us promote the town all year round. All we ask is that the public support our local businesses in Tralee this Christmas and into the New Year.”

The return of free on-street parking and in Kerry County Council Car-parks from 1pm daily from December 5 to January 5 will further encourage shoppers into town before Christmas and into the New Year. The decision to introduce a Christmas Market to the Town Centre from  December 17-23 follows the success of the recent Tralee Food Festival and feedback from the Shoppers Forum which was held earlier in the year.

The market in The Square is open to local/visiting food producers and craft makers with the prerequisite that if they haven’t made it, they can’t sell it. To reserve a stall/pitch visit Tralee.ie to find the application form, details on booking a space and how to pay.

Santa will be meeting children at CH The Mall, Crag Cave and other locations around town.

“It’s not Christmas in Kerry until the lights are switched on in Tralee and we are grateful to our friends and colleagues in Kerry County Council and Sean Murphy who have made it possible for locals and visitors to enjoy a sparkling Christmas under the magnificent lights throughout town,” said John Drummey.

The Charity Office Chair Racing event will be held in The Mall on Saturday, December 19 with all proceeds going to the local Society of St Vincent de Paul.

The New Year’s Eve Fireworks Display sponsored by Tralee Chamber Alliance, BorgWarner, Manor West Retail Park and The Roast House will return to the Town Centre at 7pm on Thursday, December 31 while the Count Clock will also be in situ for “Midnight on Denny Street” later that night.

Full details of the Christmas Spraoi in Tralee are available from www.Tralee.ie and Facebook.com/ChristmasSpraoiInTralee.

The Christmas Spraoí in Tralee “Advent” calendar is currently being delivered to homes in Tralee and it features something for everyone from November 28th to December 31st when the town will ring in the New Year.
