OVER 500 people recently attended a coffee morning at the Ballygarry House Hotel to mark the retirement of Chief Superintendent Pat Sullivan after 41 years service in An Garda Síochána.

The event on Friday, January 22, doubled as a fundraiser for the Kerry Hospice Foundation, which is a charity very close to the hearts of Pat and his wife Maura.

Attendees on the day gave generously to this cause with a very impressive €7,930 collected on the day.

Maura who is very involved in the Kerry Hospice for over six years now, is the present day treasurer for the Tralee and Kerry Branch, was very much to the fore in organising the fundraising morning.

She expressed her thanks to those who showed their support and who generously made donations at the event.

Dan Galvin from Kerry Hospice accepted the cheque from recently retired Pat Sullivan and informed those present that all proceeds collected were to go towards the completion of the in-patient unit.

The Kerry Hospice provides care to terminally ill cancer patients throughout the county of Kerry. Last year the Kerry Hospice celebrated its 25th anniversary.

The newest venture they have embarked on is the construction of an 15 bed inpatient unit on the grounds of Kerry General Hospital.

This is a very exciting time for Kerry Hospice with the first sod turned on this project on the 11th December 2015. It is expected this project will take 12 months to complete with the estimated cost of the project amounting to €6.2 million euro.

Ballygarry - new banquetting suite
Ballygarry House Hotel & Spa has invested over €250,000 in re-developing the new Monarch Suite.

BALLYGARRY House Hotel and Spa has recently invested over €250,000 in the refurbishment and renovation of one of its major banqueting suites in the hotel.

The four star hotel which was recently voted  Number 5 hotel in Ireland on TripAdvisor, oversaw the massive investment which led to their ‘Monarch Suite’ being completely redone.

This saw an overhaul of the fabrics, curtains, carpets, seating, antiqued mirrors, wood work and light fittings  to give the room a fresh and classically chic look.

The Monarch Suite, which can cater for weddings ranging from just 50 to 380 guests. The main factor in deciding to refurbish the room was the surge in weddings that the hotel has experienced recently, with all their weekend dates for 2015 almost fully booked out.

“We are very dedicated to ensuring the interiors at Ballygarry House are kept up to date with all modern conveniences. The refurbishment of The Monarch Suite matched the traditional hospitality values of our staff, whilst ensuring the needs and expectations of modern day brides and grooms are met and exceeded.” said Padraig McGillycuddy, who is the owner Ballygarry House Hotel & Spa.

This upgrade was a smaller part of a larger investment of €350,000 which will also see investment in energy efficiency for the property and a yearly phase of bedroom refurbishment.

High Praise For Tralee Hospitality This Week

The Roast House on Denny Street, which received a five out of five review in the Sunday World.

IT’S been a good week for two local hospitality businesses who received glowing compliments in national and international media.

The Sunday World gave The Roast House a 5/5 review while Ballygarry House Hotel received high praise in The Irish Post, a UK weekly newspaper aimed at expats.

The Sunday World’s ‘Grub Spy’ critic made their way to The Roast House after a tip-off they received about the restaurant on Denny Street.

“The Roast House was the kind of unpretentious eatery that inevitably becomes a must-visit destination,” said The Sunday World, Grub Spy.

Staff at the restaurant were also praised by the undercover reviewer who says “the servers at The Roast House would make a fortune selling their silver tongued charm”.

Ballygarry House Hotel was visited by Sharon Ni Chonchuir of The Irish Post. She has an Irish Language column in the newspaper and lives nearby on the Dingle Peninsula.

“A recent stay in Ballygarry House in Tralee came as a much-needed wake-up call. Seeing where I live through the eyes of a tourist made me realise just how lucky I am that this is where I get to call home,” said Sharon Ni Chonchuir.

“You’ll find dark wooden nooks, libraries of books and deep comfy chairs placed in front of fireplaces throughout the hotel. In fact, it’s the perfect place for that autumnal or wintry weekend when all you want to do is sit by the fire reading a book and sipping cups of hot cocoa or glasses of hot whiskey,” said Sharon.

These kind of reviews are a welcome boost to the town and will hopefully attract more people to explore all the good things the town has to offer.
