EOIN Liston’s nickname was the subject of a security alert on a flight last weekend.
Kerry GAA legend ‘Bomber’ was travelling home with friends who enjoyed David Moran’s stag party in Cheltenham, when a friend of the seven-time All-Ireland medal winner called out his nickname at a loud volume on the plane.
The air hostess on the Cardiff to Cork flight became concerned and the man was asked to stay back after landing to speak with the pilot. ‘Bomber’ stayed with his friend in case he was needed. A Google search was required to explain the situation and the problem was resolved.

It wasn’t the first time his nickname has caused a bit of a stir. Speaking this morning on Radio Kerry, he told a story of a time he and Ogie Moran were in Castlewellan in Co. Down in the 1970s, during the Troubles.
After playing a football game they retired to the bar where Ogie, getting the round in, called out “Bomber!”. The bar fell silent and Ogie continued “…is it a Heineken?” thus defusing the situation.
EOIN LISTON reckons Tommy Walsh could be the man to tip the balance in Kerry’s favour around midfield for the Munster Final replay against Cork on Saturday week.
In the drawn match, Cork’s Alan O’Connor, gave a man-of-the-match display which had him dubbed the Nikolai Valuev of GAA.

Writing in his Irish Independent column, ‘The Bomber’ is concerned about the hold Cork had in midfield and thinks the Kerins O’Rahilly’s clubman deserves a shot.
“Tommy Walsh must feel he’s a long way down the Kerry pecking order; he’ll be very disappointed that he wasn’t called upon at any stage,” said Eoin Liston.
“I believe he might be the man, with the strength and mobility, to take O’Connor on,” he said.
“Cork won nine of the 13 breaking balls in the middle third the last day and that gave them a platform to hurt Kerry in defence. Their half-backs caused so much trouble and our own weren’t a threat.
“Kerry need increased aggression around this area, they have to get their match-ups right, they must be more ruthless and the kick-out strategy has to be improved,” said Eoin Liston.
AFTER watching Kerry get over Tipperary, one of the greats from the ‘golden era’ feels Kerry have a few things to iron out if they are to retain the All-Ireland.
Writing in the Irish Independent today, Eoin Liston, felt Kerry should have beaten Tippeary in much more convincing fashion.
“Kerry huffed and puffed against Division 3 side Tipperary, eventually winning by six points. I have to admit, I’m a little concerned by what I saw,” wrote the Kerry legend.
“Donegal hammered Division 3 side Armagh on Sunday; the result was never in doubt. Last month Dublin put 27 points on Longford, a team that won promotion to Division 3 for next season,” he wrote.
Liston said the first 15 minutes of the match caused him concern.
“There was one stretch in the first half when they didn’t win any clean ball in the middle of the field for 15 minutes, and there was a similar period in the second half,” he wrote in his column.
The former Kerins O’Rahilly’s coach did find positives in the game however.
“The team will be happy to have won, to be into another Munster final and to have had a good challenge before meeting Cork….It was vital to get game-time into players like Colm Cooper, James O’Donoghue and Donnchadh Walsh, but beyond that there were plenty of things that Kerry must work hard on if they are to have a hope of retaining the All-Ireland.”

There were seven contestants on stage in the competition judged by Kerry native, Katie Hannon of RTE’s Prime Time, Deirdre Walsh of Radio Kerry and Cllr Terry O’Brien.
They were Minister Jimmy Deenihan, Eoin Liston, Ogie Moran, Cormac Coffey, Noel Kennelly, Marc O Sé and Donal Daly.
They were grilled by the glamorous host on their knowledge of all things beauty related and, in some cases, they were scarily well-informed; Jimmy Deenihan was able to tell us there are five Kardashian sisters (but he couldn’t name any of them).
The public voted and in the end Eoin Liston, Marc O Sé and Jimmy Deenihan were chosen to undergo the waxing. However, Jimmy had a previous engagement and had to go, so Ogie Moran stepped in to take his place.
It proved a very entertaining spectacle as the lads experienced the pain many women go through to look their best.
It was a hugely successful night and organiser Andrea O’Donoghue was delighted with the turnout and the support of all present for the cause.
