TRALEE schools were well represented on Wednesday in the Kerry Colleges Track And Field Championships at Riocht Athletic Track, Castleisland.
Over 400 secondary school athletes from Kerry and West Limerick competed on the day; with a minute’s silence being observed in memory of the late Tom Joe O’Donoghue.
The winners of Best Girls and Boys Schools were Mercy Mounthawk Tralee, with their athletes winning many races throughout the day, while Tralee CBS and Pres Tralee also enjoyed some successes.

TRALEE schools athletes came home with medals from the Irish Life Health/Irish Schools Track and Field Championships 2018 held in Tullamore on Saturday.
Niamh O’Mahony of Presentation Tralee brought home gold in the 3000m with Mercy Mounthawk winning the Intermediate 4 x 100m Relay in a record time.
Other gold medallists for Kerry were Katelyn Reid (Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne) for Junior Javelin and Ciara Kennelly (Presentation Killarney) for Intermediate High Jump.
CBS Tralee student David Siegel won a silver in the Intermediate Shot Putt. Meanwhile, Alyce O’Connor from Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine Kenmare won a silver in the Intermediate 1500m.

There were bronze medals for Mercy Mounthawk students Cillian Griffin who was Joint 3rd in the Intermediate 100m, Mervyn Shalemba for the Intermediate 200m and Darragh Courtney in the Senior High Jump. The Mercy Mounthawk – Senior 4 x 300m Relay team also won bronze. The only other Kerry bronze was for Fiona Doyle from Intermediate School Killorglin in the Senior High Jump.

QUALIFIERS from North and South Munster Post-Primary Schools competitions competed in the Munster Schools Cross-Country Championships which were held at Waterford I.T. on Friday.
The course was dry underfoot and hilly, making for fast racing. Well done to all who competed and congratulations to our Kerry athletes who came home with four medals. They were:

Kerry athletes results in the Munster Schools Cross-Country Championships, Waterford I.T.

TRALEE schools enjoyed big success at the annual Kerry Colleges Track and Field Championships held in ideal conditions at An Riocht Athletic Track on Thursday last.
Around 400 athletes representing 15 secondary schools contested sprints, middle and long distance races; shot putt, long and high jumps, and to finish off the day, the ever-popular relays.
In the boys’ competition, Sean Mahony of St. Michaels, Listowel had a double in Minor 100m and long jump. In the Junior catagory, Jordan Kissane of Tralee CBS had a double in high jump and long jump and was second in 100m.
Gary Cronin of St. Brendans Killarney won gold in both 100m and 400m. Mercy Mounthawk were winners of the Shield for Best Boys School, with Tralee CBS second and St. Brendans Killarney third.
In the girls’ competition, Christine McCarthy of Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine Kenmare won both the Intermediate Long Jump and High Jump.
In the Senior category, Aoibheann O’Brien of Mercy Mounthawk was impressive in winning both 100m and Long Jump. Mercy Mounthawk won the Shield for Best Girls School, with Presentation Killarney coming second, and Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine Kenmare third.

THERE were 400 athletes from Kerry and West Limerick secondary schools competing at the annual Kerry Schools Track& Field Championships which were held on Tuesday at Riocht Athletic Track, Castleisland.
IT was a good day for one Tralee school in particular as the Shields for Best Girls School and Best Boys School was won by Mercy Mounthawk. Tralee CBS came second in the Boys School category and their athletes also scooped a number of first place on the day.
The girls from Tralee schools didn’t fare as well but nevertheless Mercy Mounthawk, Presentation and Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí participants had a number of places between them. Scroll down for photos and full results…

TRALEE athletes excelled at the Kerry Schools Cross Country Championships on Wednesday at The Demesne, Killarney.
Tralee CBS beat competition from around the county to win the ‘Best School Award’ for boys, with Mercy Mounthawk coming in second place and Presentation Milltown 3rd.
Presentation Killarney won ‘Best Girls School’ with Mercy Mounthawk once again finishing second, joint 3rd were Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine Kenmare and Presentation Milltown.
For The Green, Mohammad Raheem was a very impressive winner of the Minor race, leading his team to 1st place.
Fergal O’Brien of CBS was an easy winner of the Junior race, with his team coming 2nd. Daire Keane ran a great race to finish 2nd in the Intermediate race, with the two Tralee CBS teams dominating to finish 1st and 2nd.
Shane Lowth was a good 2nd in the Senior race, leading the two teams to 1st and 3rd place. These teams now go on to compete at the North-Munster Championships in Limerick.
For Mercy Mounthawk, Cillian Tierney, won the senior category. Also picking up a top award was Eimear O’Sullivan, from Presentation who won the minor girls award.

THE Kerry Schools Cross Country Championships 2015 took place on Friday at The Demesne, Killarney and Tralee schools acquitted themselves well taking the Best Overall School awards in both Boys and Girls categories.
Fifteen schools and 350 athletes competed in good, testing cross-country conditions, thanks to the preparation by Mike Horan and his Killarney team.
Schools that competed were: Tarbert Comprehensive, Colaiste na Sceilge, Tralee CBS, Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí, Presentation Tralee, Presentation Milltown, Presentation Killarney, Mercy Mounthawk, St. Brendans College Killarney, St. Josephs Ballybunion, Intermediate School Killorglin, Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine (Kenmare), Scoil Pobal Sliabh Luachra (Rathmore), St. Michael’s College Listowel and Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne.
The Shields for Best Overall Boys and Girls Schools were presented by Damien McLoughlin of Kerry Colleges Athletics Board to Adam Barrett, team captain of Tralee CBS and Fiona Kavanagh, team captain of Mercy Mounthawk.
The action now moves to North and South Munster competitions, which takes place on Thursday, January 29 in Pallaskenry, Co. Limerick (North) and on Friday, January 30 at CIT, Bishopstown, Cork (South).
