IT fell on a Sunday this year, but ladies made the weekend their own as restaurants and bars hosted groups for Women’s Christmas.
It’s a tradition mainly confined to Kerry and Cork, but one still well observed and businesses enjoyed a late festive season bonanza to end the Christmas festivities for another year.

THE final fling of the festive season took place last night as ladies hit the town for Women’s Christmas.
Traditionally signalling the end of Christmas, the hotels and restaurants were packed out all over town as families and groups of friends enjoyed a night out.
We travelled around to Kirby’s Brogue Inn, The Ashe Hotel, No.4 On The Square, Croí Restaurant and The Grand Hotel to sample the atmosphere. Scroll down for photos…
The festive season is officially over and ladies hit restaurants all over town last night to bid it farewell on Women’s Christmas.
Restaurants were packed all over Tralee, as groups large and small enjoyed some delicious meals and the odd glass of wine.

You know the festive season’s goose is cooked when the tradition is celebrated and it’s still alive as evidenced by the crowds in restaurants around town.
We brought our cameras to the Ballygarry House Hotel, The Brogue, Finnegan’s and Cassidy’s restaurant to see how the celebrations were going.
SO Christmas is now officially over as Women’s Christmas gives the signal to take down the tree and put the crib back in the attic.
Well many ladies around town weren’t going to let the night pass without marking the January 6 tradition and restaurants around town did a roaring trade with women getting together before normality resumes.
We took a trip around to a few venues to see how they were celebrating.

WOMEN took to the hotels and restaurants around town last night to celebrate Women’s Christmas.
A number of restaurants had special menus for the event, while the Fels Point Hotel provided a latin flavour to the night with tapas and salsa dancing.
Ballygarry House Hotel also had a special celebration with live music, a drinks reception and four course meal for the ladies.
Despite people being back to work, the schools reopened and the event falling on a Tuesday, there was still a good few out celebrating the tradition.
WITH Christmas almost upon us, it’s a good time to finalise those plans for New Year’s Eve and Women’s Christmas.
The Fels Point Hotel has organised two great events which are sure to attract a lively crowd and festive atmosphere.
First of all there is a Gala Ball on New Year’s Eve. This will be a lavish, fun affair with a champagne and cocktails drinks reception on arrival and entertainment from vocal trio ‘Swingabella’ with swinging sounds from the 1930s and 40s.
A sumptuous five course gala dinner follows at around 8.30pm with great spot prizes and music from Heart And Soul followed by a DJ til very late.
Tickets are €75 and the dress code is formal.

Then on January 6 there is a special Nollaig na mBan celebration with a latin feel.
The hotel are putting on a fabulous Spanish Fiesta with prosecco on arrival, a chocolate fountain, tasty tapas and a traditional Spanish dance extravaganza featuring lively music and great spot prizes and entertainment.
Sounds like the right mix for a great girls night out. The fun starts at 7pm and tickets are just €19.95 per person.
