Three Kerry Families Win Categories At NDC And Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards

The O’Brien family from Doon, Tralee, won a category at the NDC and Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards.

THREE Kerry families were announced as category winners at the prestigious NDC and Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards which were held at Ballyvolane House in Cork today.

The annual awards acknowledge and celebrate the highest standards of excellence in dairy farming in Ireland.

The O’Brien family from Doon, Tralee were awarded the Future Proofing Animal Health award, the Egan family from Abbeydorney were awarded the Farm Infrastructure Development award, the Moynihan family from Knocknagoshel were awarded the Transformational EBI Change award.

Eric and his son, Austin O’Brien have been farming together for the past number of years. Eric’s wife Tina, and their other children, Emer, Hazel and Rachel also reside on the family farm in Doon.

Eoin Egan lives in Abbeydorney, with his wife Siobhán, two small children, Ruairí and Síne, and his parents, Frank and Mary. Eoin, Frank and Mary work in a three-way partnership, with the Egans farming the land since the early 1800s.

The Connelly family, from Tuam, Co. Galway – supplying the Aurivo Co-Op – were announced as the overall winner of the 2022 NDC & Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards.

For the first time in 2022, specific category awards were presented to the 13 finalists, acknowledging excellence in milk quality, sustainable practices – including care for the environment and on-farm animal welfare, as well as technical knowledge and management of facilities.
