Three Kerry Schoolchildren Shortlisted For Doodle for Google Awards

THREE Kerry schoolchildren have been shortlisted for Doodle for Google Awards 2016 and they need your help if they are to win the competition.

Seanie Feehan, from Scoil Niamh Eirc, Kilmoyley and Kyran Boyle and Jack Lynch, both from Scoil Nuachabháil, Ballymacelligott, are among the 75 children shortlisted from over 4,000 entries.

This year, students were asked to design a Doodle on the theme ‘Ireland is…’, and the winning doodle will be displayed on the Google Ireland homepage on Easter Monday, March 28, 2016.

The panel of judges with the hard decision of choosing the shortlist include artist Maser, one of Ireland’s leading visual artists working in the urban environment, Aideen Howard, director of The Ark, a Cultural Centre for Children and Tomm Moore, co-founder and Creative Director of Cartoon Saloon, who directed the Oscar nominated film ‘The Secret of Kells’ and the film ‘Song of the Sea’.

Voting opens on February 7 and members of public can vote for their favourite doodles until the closing date of February 14.  The five most popular doodles, one from each category, will go forward to the grand final where the overall winner will be chosen by the Google Ireland team.

Besides having their doodle seen by millions, the winners will also receive a €5,000 scholarship towards their third-level studies, a Chromebook, and a €10,000 technology grant for their school.

Also each of the five class group winners and their teachers will also win a Chromebook each.
