Tomás Garvey To Receive Kerry Person Of The Year Award

THE Kerry Association in Dublin’s Kerry Person of the Year has been announced and it’s certainly a popular choice.

Tomás Garvey, founder of the Garvey Group, businessman, hotelier, staunch supporter of charities and community initiatives and proud supporter and sponsor of Kerry GAA and basketball in Kerry, will receive the honour for 2019 from the Kerry Association in Dublin in March.

The Laochra Chiarraí award has also been announced. The Kerry Mountain Rescue Team has been selected to receive the award which recognises exemplary leadership in community activity in the county. The announcements were made on Radio Kerry this lunchtime.

The Kerry Person of the Year award, now in its fortieth year, recognises an individual who has shown leadership, brought honour to the county, and performed services for the county to such an extent that could be described as being beyond the norm of everyday life.

During her tribute to the Dingle native Tomás Garvey, the Cathaoirleach of the Kerry Association in Dublin, Keelin Kissane, said; “this award is presented in recognition of the valuable contribution he has made to Kerry through the business he has grown and the positive effect of the Garvey Group business in the communities in which it operates and in particular for his support of charities and community initiatives and his support and sponsorship of Kerry GAA and basketball in Kerry. We are delighted to honour Tomás for all that he has done for the people of Kerry.”

The awards will be presented at the Association’s annual Oiche Chiarraí which will be held in the iconic Croke Park on Saturday, March 30, 2019.

Tickets for Oiche Chiarraí will be €80 although members of the Kerry Association will be able to purchase tickets for €75 and this reduced rate will also be available to early bird bookings until February 15.
