Competitive Table Football Returns to Munster

After years of being in the shadows and almost forgotten, competitive competition Subbuteo returned to the Irish province of Munster in what must be a void of at least 10 years.

18 players from different parts of the Isle congregated in the Brandon Hotel to do battle in the 3rd round of the Irish Table Football Circuit..

Locally we had six players competing with Mario Frittelli coming out on top by claiming joint 3rd spot.

In the Plate event Cian Hogan made it to the final before losing to Ulsterman Oisin Mor 1-0. Cian also won the award for local player of the tournament.

We had success in the Shield though with Willam Magnier seeing off Dublin’s John Kinsella in the final by 2-0

Finally, the main event was full of dramatics as the “Old Firm” of Farrell and Beggs locked horns yet again. I have to say it’s a new one on me as the game was halted for 5 minutes as Kenny Beggs received treatment on a finger wound picked up in the battle. Whether or not this put the Ulsterman off is anyone’s guess, but Dubliner Mark Farrell gained revenge for his Ballymena loss with a 2-0 victory.

On Monday night a few of us headed to Wilton in Cork for the opening night of the new Cork club. The night went very well with a host of friendly games, advice and chat the order of the night.

Club Subbuteo returns to Tralee on the 13 May in the Klub Bar and Bistro, Strand St.

In what is a World Cup year we’d love to see a few new faces trying the sport and anyone is more than welcome to come and give the game a try. Start time 7:30 pm
