Tralee Tourism Projects Among Those In Kerry To Share Over €350,000 In Funding

TWELVE tourism projects in Kerry will receive €354,606 in funding under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme which aims to provide investment to attract visitors to mountain trails, forest walks, rivers, lakes and beaches.

These include a number of projects in the Tralee area at the Tralee Ship Canal, Ballyseedy Woods and the Nuns Wood.

The funding has been welcomed by Minister for Education and Fianna Fáil Kerry TD Norma Foley and Fine Gael Kerry TD Brendan Griffin.

The 12 key tourism projects in Kerry which have been awarded funding under the scheme are:

• Maintenance to existing paths and wooded areas at Ballyseedy Wood:  € 29,700

• Essential maintenance of Nun’s Wood and identification of potential for trail development: €27,900

• Feasibility Study – Tralee Ship Canal:   €31,050

• Tralee upgrade at Bernard Brothers’ loop of the Glanageenty Walks:  €24,702

• Ballyheigue Beach toilets upgrade: € 30,000

• Provision of  seven additional beach wheelchairs to improve accessibility to Fenit, Ballyheigue & Rossbeigh:  €25,601

• Develop Plan for Mount Brandon base, Faha, Cloghane: €49,950

• Kingdom of Kerry greenways development of greenway website and develop a content pool: €30,000

• Works in the Hag’s Glen & Lower Cronins’ Yard tracks:  €26,523

• Skellig Coast Showcase  – Marketing area on a dynamic multi-media platform:  €29,700

• Rebranding Slí Ár Sinsear’ (The Way of our Ancestors) ancient pilgrim path on Kerry Way from Glenbeigh to Cahersiveen:  €19,480

• Drombohilly Stone Circle near Tuosist-route 35km of the Beara Way off-road:  €30,000
